Hell yeah, so this means all the protests will be over right?
Depends on what the Army decides to do. Presumably they value achieving democracy over gestures like this.
That is so great for you all! Awesome milestone in world history! Feel proud Egyptians. Even if you weren't in the protests, you still helped the world by spreading information!
I just wish I didn't have school this week. It pisses me off that I missed this amazing moment! I was ready to throw my hands up and celebrate!
The DJIA is up!

I have a weeklong break next week :D
It's gonna be good if they get a better goverment.
I think all signs point to democratic government. The power of these protesters seem so great that I think things will go your way. And if not, then everybody is still riled up and will be ready to make some changes. Awesome!
Awesome!
Now hopefully there will be democracy!
I can't believe i ignored this thread for so long because i thought it was a misspelling of "bacon".
:suicide:
Good luck, hope you get what you're fighting for!
Well done, fellas

I'm so happy this didn't turn into a bloodbath.
As pageking, let me sum up; Mubarak steps down, Suilleman hands over power to the army.

Wow, proof that a country can force change for it self if it really wants it.
Congrats to Egypt.
:golfclap:
Holy. Shit.
Edit (anyone else feel like, you've just witnessed a MAJOR part in history?)
Also, someone should look into changing the thread title.
No more baton, it's freedom time.

People have been saying that since the start. I think if this thread was named something more appropriate it would be more popular.
I only stumbled into it because I was wondering why it had 20 pages (I was honestly expecting a 20 page lovefest of bacon)
I'm amazed! You have made history!
Step up... get knocked the fuck down. :buddy:

Also, somewhat surprisingly, it was done almost entirely without guns. Amazing.
Oh shit, he [Mubarak] just stepped down and handed power to the military!

So why is it that he needs to run away?
Congratiolations!
Glad that the news here treats it like the big news it is.

Every Egyptian in this thread should get a title or something
VoodooAttack
Liberator!
Or VoodooAttack
The one person on facepunch who would actually go outside and protest against something!
or something awesome.
"I stuck the baton up Mubarak's ass"
just an idea
I was thinking more along the lines of just "revolutionary" but whatever :v:

The BBC are showing people launching fireworks and using search lights. Have they been sitting on this stuff for the last 18 days?

You know, I'd really love to see the day they actually start to enforce them and expel members for transgressions.
The goal with the UN is to achieve peace in the world, and expelling members from the UN works against this goal. The UN can only enforce treaties (not declarations or resolutions) if the country's parliament in question has ratified the treaty. Even then it's problematic, because the countries can make exceptions from some of the articles. More authoritarian regimes make exceptions from the administrative section of the treaty, where it gives the UN the right to observe the country to see if it adheres to the treaty.
I get pretty much all my news from the BBC, and I've never seen them do this before

Usually there is a grid of stories on the front page, and for big stories they take half the grid up with one story. They did that for the British election last year. For this, the grid is gone, the entire page has been pushed down, a huge space has been devoted to just this story, there is another Egypt story below and the first three videos in the Watch/Listen box are about Egypt. As far as I am aware they have never given a single story this much space on the page before.
Shouldn't we... Celebrate?
