in the start i was supoting the uprising but when the mob begins to group rape journalists. i don't care for them anymore
I remember reading an article in NewScientist about how these waves of protests were manifestations of mathematical complexity theories of the increasing globalisation of food supplies

The fuck? Apparently snipers are shooting unarmed civilians in Manama.

Heh, do you seriously believe that the same people who had 0 sexual harassment incidents throughout their revolution would spontaneously rape a foreign journalist right in the middle of a landmark for the whole world to see?
I strongly doubt it. The question is the nature of said mob, and whether it belonged there in the first place.

I don't believe that this started because of food shortages, most of the people participating are financially sound and secure, and the silent majority that has actual poverty problems are still mostly silent.
I think what we're witnessing are the effects of Social Entropy, not (only) the high food prices.
Otherwise, this would've started in deep Africa (Somalia, Eritrea, Niger), not Tunisia and Egypt.

No, I wasn't posting here most of the time because of the internet blackout in Egypt.
Most of my posts are in the programming section.

Yeah, today was another multi-million march across the country in honour of our martyrs.
Al-Jomaa prayer was held at Tahrir square. (with more than 2 million people present) Same at Al-Qua'ed Ibrahim mosque here in Alexandria.
Military forces in Bahrain opened live fire on protestors while flooding them with tear gas. 66 are reported wounded, and 6 or so dead...
Shit. I can't believe it.

It's kind of wacky how different the world is compared to ~100 years ago.
You can read about this kind of stuff happening in history books, but I just read a post on an internet forum.
It puts things in a new perspective for me.
this thread needs to still be popular. I still have it bookmarked and theres still tons to talk about!
its a shame what happened in Bahrain. I saw that my friend was watching a video of the protesters who were shot dead by the military. its horrible.

Libya, Yemen, Bahrain, haven't heard anything from Algeria in 2 days now.

@AlanFisher: Eyewitness confirms that over 200 #Libyans have been massacred today alone in the city of #Benghazi.

libyan unity confirmed: police giving guns to youth in derna and bayda and now heading to benghazi to finish the regime completely, #Libya

But, if Kyrgyzstan was any indication, such tools can only be wielded by civilians if they look badass as hell. See: rawket hipster.

Maybe im just crazy to notice this.
A few sources and the Federation of American Scientists say Gaddafi does in fact have Chemical weaponry. If shit really did go down, would Gaddafi dare use them in last resort?

Yeah, I'd say he would, he's a complete madman

They're chanting "Allah Akbar" which translates to "god is greater" and "Allah Yansurna" (may god grant us victory). I'm not even sure what you're trying to hint at here. They're not attacking another country, and they certainly are doing this in self-defence against foreign mercenaries that are using tanks to attack unarmed civilians.
If you had your leader use your tax money to hire foreign mercenaries to kill your people using tanks he also purchased using the same funds you might someday understand.
Btw, Gaddafi started assassinating military leaders today, he thinks they're planning a coup against him after several platoons joined the people in the fight against his mercenaries.
Looks like Libya is next to go down, then I'm guessing Yemen or Bahrain. Not sure if Algeria will win though

Im not trying to pull any T-card here.
but when guys are in a car with anti-tank weapons chanting god is greater or may god grant us victory.
all in the name of peace kinda sends mixed messages.
if these are what "peaceful protesters" do
I wonder what you could do with combatant protesters.
again anti-tank weaponry =/= peace or a peaceful protest.
More like getting Shot On Sight by the army in the area.

A peaceful protest is no longer either peaceful or a protest when either side has the need for anti tank weapons.
It is just short of a civil war IMO.

The peaceful protest stage ended when Gaddafi's mercenaries opened fire with live bullets on the crowds. Which is an act of treason according to every Libyan I've talked to so far.

Libyans>Egyptians in the size of their balls to stand up to their governments when they shooting at them I guess.
Libyans>Egyptians in the size of their balls to stand up to their governments when they shooting at them I guess.
Huh? Elaborate.
He's saying that the Libyans are incredibly ballsy to carry on protesting when they are being actively fired on with live rounds.
He's saying that the Libyans are incredibly ballsy to carry on protesting when they are being actively fired on with live rounds.
even more ballsy to get anti-tank rounds and go rolling around in the street.
now this sounds like a revolution.
[editline]20th February 2011[/editline]
and technically its no longer protesting when you pick up anti-tank weapons and go after the armed forces.
its more like a insurgency
Things didn't develop that far here, and you can only guess why the military didn't side with Mubarak.
Also, Mubarak didn't hire foreign mercenaries and turn it into a full scale war.

contary to popular belief saying allah akbar doesn't make you a terrorist or a islamic radical you idiot
contary to popular belief saying allah akbar doesn't make you a terrorist or a islamic radical you idiot
no shit, i never said that.
but I would say if religion plays a part, there is cause for some side concern.
If I saw a guy driving around in a pick up truck with a anti-tank weapon saying Jesus is great, i be just as concern.
even more ballsy to get anti-tank rounds and go rolling around in the street.

A revolution is a revolution no matter as long as the outcome is a new government. It's just that sometimes the leader gets the picture and in other cases they go batshit insane.
It is not an insurgency mind you, that would require an invasion first surely. Like I said previously if anything its a civil war.

It seems that the media over the years has caused that problem. I mean I am sure non English speakers do not get scared or think of terrorism if people shout "god is great".
