But they are fictional stories. I don't see how fictional stories could be taken like this and I don't see how this matters.
read the thread, it has already been explained.
I'm not going to bother refuting your valid arguments, and present to you what this guy said.
Personally I really don't understand why any of it matters
Can't really be assed to watch any of those videos (because I don't really care) but I'm curious if she's actually mentioning the characters that do not fit this trope. To be honest I tend to consider any study of this kind irrelevant if they don't take the time to cover every aspect, which includes the ones that go against your theory.

Also, she discussed some indie games in this video that deal with women's deaths tastefully.
I'm not going to bother refuting your valid arguments, and present to you what this guy said.
You're not a marginalized group who're trying to enjoy the same games as you without being blasted with sexist/homophobic shit be it in the writing or online. Maybe then you'd understand why it matters to some people.
But they are fictional stories. I don't see how fictional stories could be taken like this and I don't see how this matters.
Just because they are fictional, doesn't mean they aren't involved in a greater social context. The section of the video that I mentioned earlier talked about how video games can normalize violence against women.
She'll be discussing inversions, subversions etc. in the next video. I'm really curious to see what's her opinion on characters like Samus or Femshep.

Good on you mate.
Just because they are fictional, doesn't mean they aren't involved in a greater social context. The section of the video that I mentioned earlier talked about how video games can normalize violence against women.
It only normalizes violence against women if all you do is focus a shitton on said violence. When people accused RE5 of being racist because you killed black people in Africa, they really were the racist ones for finding such a detail and turning it into a shitstorm. Soon people will whine because Fallout 3 has a perk that deals extra damage to the opposite sex.
The section of the video that I mentioned earlier talked about how video games can normalize violence against women.
People who get the idea that violence against women is okay from video games are the same people who the lawmakers use to prove that video games cause young people to become violent. Normal people aren't going to see a woman die in a video game and say 'haha that looks like fun', but people who would commit actions like that would anyway, regardless of the game's influences.
You don't even bother to watch her videos yet you're making assumptions about what she talks about. Good on you mate.
Yep, and the world hasn't stopped spinning.

You really should watch the video.
Yep, and the world hasn't stopped spinning.
Alright so all of your posts are worthlessly speculatory. Good to know, wont take you seriously in the future.
No, it normalizes by making the violence against the woman seem like a natural reaction. You really should watch the video.
Overthinking is the mother of panicking. It's a 3D mesh with tits dying in a video game, as opposed to a 3D mesh without tits dying in a video game. Whenever I play fallout or prototype I don't carefully avoid shooting the poor women because sexism, I just don't give a shit because it's a video game. If you're actually brought to believe that it's a-ok to beat a woman to death with a club in real life because you saw it in a video game or in a movie, then you are in dire need of a psychiatrist.
Can't really be assed to watch any of those videos (because I don't really care) but I'm curious if she's actually mentioning the characters that do not fit this trope.
She promised in her kickstarter video that she would discuss good examples that subvert the tropes. She was holding a Portal 2 game box as it was mentioned.
Alright so all of your posts are worthlessly speculatory. Good to know, wont take you seriously in the future.
Am I supposed to give a shit about you not taking me seriously concerning my opinion on a random lady who's yelling about things
Am I supposed to give a shit about you not taking me seriously concerning my opinion on a random lady who's yelling about things
Actually she isn't yelling about anything.
She promised in her kickstarter video that she would discuss good examples that subvert the tropes. She was holding a Portal 2 game box as it was mentioned.
Alright then. Even though portal 2 isn't really a good example because chell has literally no personality. Given, it's on purpose, but she's still an empty shell for the character to identify with (hence the name) [editline]29th May 2013[/editline]
Actually she isn't yelling about anything.
Yeah that's why she made a kickstarter to gather money and buy games to make several 30 minute long videos about how video games are the worst thing ever. You know if Angelina Jolie decided to complain about video games ignoring the poor instead of acting to help the poor, I think I wouldn't exactly take her as seriously either.

Do you happen to browse /v/ often?
I can smell the neck beard on you. Do you happen to browse /v/ often?
I've never even bothered looking up /v/ and my face is clean shaved every week. Are you going to rely on calling me a tiny weeny now ?

The point is that the large trend of some of these tropes normalizes certain negative ideas.
Why don't you go help the poor instead of bitching about a video you didn't watch? Oh right, the neckbeard my bad.
Yeah that's why she made a kickstarter to gather money and buy games to make several 30 minute long videos about how video games are the worst thing ever.
But she is not doing that. She literally says that games aren't necessarily bad just because they feature overused tropes. I thought the exact same thing as you until I watched her entire first video.
I don't see how some guy rescuing some woman who is weaker than them in a game is "blasting" sexist/homophobic shit. All you need is general knowledge of games, a brain and very basic equipment for properly recording these games and yourself.
But she is not doing that. She literally says that games aren't necessarily bad just because they feature overused tropes. I thought the exact same thing as you until I watched her entire first video.
I'm sorry he didn't watch the videos, he is currently just trolling. I wouldn't even pay him any mind.
But she is not doing that. She literally says that games aren't necessarily bad just because they feature overused tropes. I thought the exact same thing as you until I watched her entire first video.
I'll watch them at some point then. But even then, it's going to be with the usual "who gives a shit" mentality, because really, who gives a shit ?
And those things are being attended to actually. Feminism isn't one big group. It's an ideology.
They may be being attended too, but the effort in this (as well as the $158,000) would have most definitely been much more useful on other fronts.
I'll watch them at some point then. But even then, it's going to be with the usual "who gives a shit" mentality, because really, who gives a shit ?
Well you because you keep bitching about it.
