Tropes vs Women in Video Games - Damsel in Distress: Part 2 - General

This video was actually very insightful. I'm surprised. I have not played alot of the games mentioned so I really didn't notice some of the awful reused plotlines and tropes.

Never did she say those characters die because they are women. She's saying this trope sucks because they're using the gruesome death of a woman solely as a catalyst for the plot. You're only expected to play the game because you are told that: 1) they are a woman and 2) this woman is something to you.

This series is about female tropes and it was originally marketed that way. Nobody is denying that there male tropes in gaming (aside from stupid tumblr feminists), in fact most people probably agree that there are lots of negative tropes for males.

When you use a shitty trope like the damsel in distress and its dark and edgy variants, it's sexist [I]and[/I] badly written. Why is it sexist? Because it enforces the idea that women are weak and the idea that men must rescue them. You'd know this much if you watched the video. Oh and Housemaster, while these videos are focused on women, the same could be applied to men. Most sexist tropes like this one also place ideas and expectations of how men should be. In this case, it places a stereotype on men: that they must always be strong and brave and always save the girl.

Like that's how it works you know right. It's the same reason that people don't focus on smaller indie films when reviewing movies.
