A gun that shoots knives.
Railguns are already well on their way to being weaponized. Wikipedia Copy/paste: "On January 31, 2008 the US Navy tested a railgun; it fired a shell at 2,520 m/s with an energy of 10.64 MJ.[15] Its expected performance is over 5.8 km/s muzzle velocity, accurate enough to hit a 5 meter target over 250 nautical miles (370 km) away while shooting at 10 shots per minute. It is expected to be ready in 2020 to 2025.[1]" If they're right, it could fire a shell at about 17 times the speed of sound. That's REALLY fucking fast compared to ANYTHING of that mass we can fire. And the shell is like 90mm if I remember correctly. Ridiculous.
Holy shit, 370 km? 17 times the speed of sound? Jesus that would be fucking awesome. Can't wait 'till 2020.
Directed sound tech, I know what your talking about though I can't seem to remember a specific name. Speaking of non-lethal tech there was a projected energy system a saw some time ago that only barely penetrated the skin and made it feel as though you were being plunged in boiling water. Completely harmless and extremely painful. One hell of a deterrence system, huh?
Actually that weapon isn't harmless. Extended exposure essentially cooks your skin, given it functions by boiling the oils and water on the outer layers of skin. I think it's like 5 or so minutes before real damage sets in. I got to see some details on that shit once. It was fucking scary.
That's horrible you monster!(says the man who wants to launch live cattle at the enemy)
Not as horrible as making the local populace allergic to money, or targeting certain races with biological weapons. Wait, it is.
Everything I've heard states that the system is completely harmless. Although I suppose if it were to be focused on an individual for a ludicrous amount of time it could do some damage. P.S. - Thanks, dunno why I missed that.
Elaborate on "extended exposure". Everything I've heard states that the system is completely harmless. That's one of the concerns with it. It's a crowd-control device, so while one guy may be on the ground another may still be standing while both of them get zapped. I dunno, I only got to see some of the declassified stuff.
What about thinking how to make it that we will no longer need weapons huh? Weapons are made for killing people. I would like more to see new energy sources or spaceship travel possibilities. Yes, weapons are cool, but most of effort ever put into weapon development is in better case never used, or used for killing/

After seeing a program on locust I've really wanted to collect a few million grasshoppers and ship them over to a place like the midwest. Four hours on a plane is enough time for them to convert over into locust, and they'd certainly be capable of crippling a nation at war.

Thinking back I'm not entirely sure of how it deals with such a problem either, would be something interesting to look up some time or another.
If there ever comes a time that we stop killing people I will murder you just on the principal of it.
And would you care to tell me what is good on principle that people get killed? I am no hippie that thinks that we could all just stop killing ourselves just because it's cool, but I think that it should be further goal for humanity.
A gigantic bomb detonated about 3/4 of the way through the atmosphere to deploy tons of metal particles into the sky. Just to see how much you can screw over the environment.
Nanomites or a Tornado gun would be sick.

Im thinking mounted railguns could spell the end of using aircraft, you could pop your standard F/A-22 with little motion-prodiction with ease.
It looks flimsy for what is essentially a death ray
Are you saying we need a Tesla-style death ray? I completely agree.
It looks flimsy for what is essentially a death ray
I suppose a little bit however it makes sense to keep it down to basics until it's time to add on.
