Which album was it that made Slayer famous? Because I just listened to their first album(Show No Mercy) and while it wasn't bad it didn't have anything that other Thrash bands of that period didn't have :raise:
Reign in blood, great album, maybe not thier best depends on what you like slayer to do i suppose, if you want satanic thrash, Reign in Blood or God Hates Us All

For one, they were one of the extremely few Thrash Metal bands to put out an album in 1983, they were faster than any other band of that era, and they were more intense, heavy, all the things that you see running rampant in Black and Death metal etc today. That's why they were initially so big, and having arguably the largest starting fan base (their record sold the most on it's first run out of all the bands on Metal Blade at the time, including outselling Kill 'em All, etc) allowed them to get very far in terms of popularity. That's despite the fact that what people say albums like "reign in blood" accomplished had already been surpassed by bands like Sepultura a year before. So Show No Mercy and Haunting the Chapel were the two albums that made them famous in the Thrash scene, while it can be argued that "South of Heaven" and "Season in the Abyss" are the two albums that made them more well known outside of the scene.
Anthrax sucks bawlz compared to Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer. I know Wikipedia says they are the big four of thrash, but Anthrax sucks.
You probably haven't listened to enough to judge that.
Revival by one of the best thrash bands I've ever heard Ace of Spades cover One of the most badass songs ever

that's gotta be one of the funniest album covers ever. I remember looking at it and just asking "are they standing in front of a bunch of hay?"

Not that big a fan of thrash in general, though I have recently discovered Suicide Watch and find their music to be most enjoyable.

Pantera is Groove Metal.
Groove metal s pretty similiar to thrash. It's slower and has more syncopation. But w/e, Evile is the best new thrash band.
Groove metal s pretty similiar to thrash. It's slower and has more syncopation.
It's more along the lines of a subgenre actually.
If any of you guys could pick your own "The Big Four" of thrash, which bands would it be?
Damn I'm almost scared to post in this thread for fear I'm going to be flamed into suicide. :P Anyway, Thrash fuckin' rules!
