Don't forget to subscribe, I update daily as I play a tad ahead of my uploads. Sometimes 2 videos at a time. Overview Welcome! This thread is dedicated to my adventures in the glorious CRPG Fallout 2. I have played it lightly before, but now i'm really digging deep and bringing you along for the ride. Join me through the countless moral choices to be made and enemies to be slain/enslaved. There are plenty of ways to deal with each situation given to us which to this day blows my mind. I feel as though this game is ahead of it's time with the many features and robust playing time. I noticed there weren't many well done Let's Plays when I started this series so I decided to try it out myself. This is my first Let's Play ever and is noticable at early points. While my first couple of videos are by no means bad I come to a consistently entertaining level of commentary and editting very early on. Come along and get in on the ground floor! [sp]I've taken to describing each video in a corny fashion in reference to classic action serials, just to give you a better idea what you're in for.[/sp] Introduction Part 01 - Bar Brawlin' Blossoms We tackle our first quest of weeding the local shaman's garden for some glorious XP. Aswell as apply our skillpoints due to the level we gained from doing the Temple of Trials (not recorded as it's a tedious tutorial most agree shouldn't exist.) They don't take kindly to tribals such as us. We also come in contact with a local dog, could he join us on our quest for the GECK? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja4LTSdMnuY&feature=plcp&context=C463a720VDvjVQa1PpcFMX1WdPLgre3MXx4UhYBKOHa55OEqZ8ueA= Part 03 - Robbing the Locals, Attacked by Children To scrounge up enough cash to get us going we begin to steal from the townsfolk's homes, in the process selling their goods back to them. We also manage to anger some local hillbilly brothers who bring the whole town bearing down on us. [sp]the last part was redacted in the next video for gameplay's sake.[/sp] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3dJ-ETAi6c&feature=plcp&context=C4da9920VDvjVQa1PpcFMX1WdPLgre3Lh6D-MEw0_kZoBMFVO7_8s= Part 04 - One Shot Wonder, Moo Moo Saviour We help out local Torr who is in need of protection for his brahmin herd. While we're also given a proposition from two brothers who wish to rangle Torr's cattle and keep them for themselves. Our first truly morale decision, which way will it go? Part 05 - Armor Aquired, Gunning down Geckos We finally come across enough funds to trade for some armor (which is itself a reference to the Mad Max films), with our one shot at a time weapon in hand we head off to face the geckos of Toxic Caves. In the hopes to bring back Klamath local Smiley. Part 06 - Spelunking once more We continue our assault on Toxic Caves, as we also come across our first random encounter on the overworld map. Heavily outmatched who can tell what will happen? We also gain another level and are awarded an extra perk, how ever shall we choose? Part 07 - Dig Deeper We delve deeper into the cavernous Toxic Caves, in search of local trapper Smiley, alive or dead, who knows? Part 08 - Random Encounters Everywhere, Robbed by Children We come across a couple of random encounters and some children take all our monies. Whatever shall we do? Part 09 - Hot Meals, Levels, The Continued Quest for Smiley We do some light questing in The Den before heading back to clear out the remains of the geckos in toxic caves. What's past the goo? I wanted to start a new game up recently, there aren't a ton of good fallout 2 playthroughs so I thought i'd add to that bunch. My build is part intentially bad, and part not knowing what's up. It hasn't gotten me killed yet so it could be interesting.
What i can suggest, just how i feel is usually introducing someone to the series is a great way to start it off, give some backstory, why you chose this game etc and what you want outta the series. I enjoyed it, and i subscribed, keep it up :)
fucking loved fallout 2. man i've gotta find it again
Fourth video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o74jb8NozxU&feature=youtu.be Added it to the OP aswell. Got some questing and shooting done, luckily for my poor luck I wasn't totally useless in combat! I only have Fallout 3 and Fallout NV. i wish i had the prequels :(
I always enjoyed playing Fallout 2 for a laugh as a low intelligence person, dialogue always looks like "nunhgh..nun-huh, uh-nuh"
I bought 1, 2 and Tactics but unfortunately I couldn't grasp the control scheme enough to keep my attention for 1 & 2 and I'm not that interested in Tactics.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jk1298808sU&feature=youtu.be 5th video is done and up, not sure why it has borders, doesn't really make a difference though.(edit my editing software still had the HD setting while I changed the resolution to 800x600, whoops) A lot more action this time around and I changed the length to 30 minutes.
I bought 1, 2 and Tactics but unfortunately I couldn't grasp the control scheme enough to keep my attention for 1 & 2 and I'm not that interested in Tactics.
I'd give 2 another try, it's my favourite of the bunch (clearly). Not sure exactly what you were having trouble with, but it's basically seperated into two different modes, the main one where you can walk around and talk/interact with objects, interactions are done by right clicking to bring up the pointer, clicking and holding brings up a larger menu. Right clicking again would bring you back to the movement cursor.
It pissed me off at first but mainly because I picked horrible stats. My second playthrough and beyond I learned and did well. I was relatively new to older RPG games when I first tried playing.
It sucks Fallout 2 goes all weird when playing with Win7 I loved the series
It sucks Fallout 2 goes all weird when playing with Win7 I loved the series
There's a couple things you can try, i'm assuming you mean the colors mess up. If it's vanilla you can just your monitor color to 16 bit. The way I have it fixed for this playthrough is with the restoration and unoffical patch.

I'll probably re-install this.
Reuploaded the 5th video to fix the dimension issue, and added another 6th video of roughly the same length. [editline]4th April 2012[/editline] Managed to kill some golden geckos! one at a time but still. Also we've leveled and gotten better melee weapon skill, hopefully I can find something better than a knife for backup. Bullets aint cheap. Not for this poor bastard anyways. Also Mad Max jacket, awh yeah.
Added the 7th video to the OP, I also dressed the OP up with some descriptions of the videos and an overview so it isn't a blob of videos.
You'll only get yourself fucked over trying to rescue smiley right now, so do the rat god quest first, it gives you a free 10mm too. Not sure if you're doing it on purpose or not, but there's the hint.
I think this is a really interesting let's play most people do games that others have done to death, I usually don't follow let's plays because I consider them to be very milked content. I think the best way to approach this stuff is to edit out the boring parts and try to be as informative about the game as possible. Like the first poster said give backstory and information on the game, tell us about things like the developers ideas or concepts of an area (it won't take long to look up). Try and teach the game aswell like in the first video you could have explained the stats/perks and how they relate to Fallout 3. Talk about how this is a game by Black Isle not Bethesda and perhaps what games of this time period were like, don't make the assumption that your audience know that kind of stuff, it can't hurt and it makes you more far more interesting to listen to. Anyway it's still a very good let's play your very entertaining to watch and you know when and where to not talk, I'm sure with more of these you'll only get better, you've got a subscriber
Thanks for the feedback, it's helpful and appreciated; I noticed I could have explained some aspects better like action points and how they affect movement and attacks or as you said the stats I chose and how they'd affect my gameplay. I'm definitely learning and posts like that can only help! I've uploaded the 8th video now, hope you find it as entertaining
Nice LP, what do you think about playing through the first Fallout? For those of you that don't know Its free on GOG, you just have to make an account. http://static.gog.com/gamecard/fallout
Anybody know where I can get fallout 2 for like, 4 dollars and 50 cents?
i can't believe you spent a full minute trying to figure out how to enter klamath in video 2
Anybody know where I can get fallout 2 for like, 4 dollars and 50 cents?
I don't think you can get it for that the game is actually increasingly more expensive because it is an old game, all I do know is the best place to get it would be GoG because they add compatibility to their games inbuilt.
i can't believe you spent a full minute trying to figure out how to enter klamath in video 2
Yeah you'd think after the first 3 times I would've learned that the button isn't going to cut it. So I opted for the "press harder" school of thought. Uploaded the 8th video, the last 8th video was actually the 9th so if you're wondering what happened between then check out the video labelled part 8! It's pretty vital for future events, in terms of getting myself in a world of trouble.
Make a new char with lower then 3 int,get some werid shit.
