Fucking BZZZZZZZ of that cannon.
They should put Stuka sirens on A10s.
Doesn't need one. [editline]17th November 2012[/editline]
source please, never heard of this
Look up the GAU-8 page on wiki.
A-10 is hands down one of my favorite jets for this reason. They strapped a plane, to a gun. Genius.
There are a bunch of A-10s based near my house, always hear them flying around doing maneuvers. Now if only I could hear the BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT in person.
us army is OP as fuck
us army is OP as fuck
better be for how much is spent on it.
us army is OP as fuck
all it takes is crap loads of resources and manpower.
Doesn't need one. [editline]17th November 2012[/editline] Look up the GAU-8 page on wiki.
From the wiki:
Both of the A-X prototypes, the YA-10 and the Northrop YA-9, were designed to incorporate the weapon, although it was not available during the initial competition, and the M61 Vulcan was used as a temporary replacement.

From the wiki:
Thus proving that other guy's statement as he explicitly mentioned the A-10 prototypes.
Thus proving that other guy's statement as he explicitly mentioned the A-10 prototypes.
It was more of a case of "we develop this beautiful gun and jet together in harmony." I'm not sure which statement you're referring to. Care to reiterate?
It was more of a case of "we develop this beautiful gun and jet together in harmony." I'm not sure which statement you're referring to. Care to reiterate?
I retract my previous statement as I misinterpreted your point. However, he's right the A-10 wasn't built solely because of the GAU-8, it was built because the US needed an attack plane.

They weren't just sitting on a huge Gatling gun before A-X came around. :v:
where is this?
Fucking hajis.
uh what? do you even know what haji means?
where is this?
Afghanistan.
uh what? do you even know what haji means?
deviating from its literal definition, "haji" is also a slang term for arabs used by us soldiers sometimes
deviating from its literal definition, "haji" is also a slang term for arabs used by us soldiers sometimes
yes, which is incredibly stupid and no one ever uses it in the right context, i constantly hear people say it as if it's a derogatory term
My friend was almost blown up by an a-10 after another unit fucked up calling it in, he said he thought the world was exploding
Whenever I hear Haji I think of Johnny Quest.
Jesus that A-10 got right on top of them. Pilot must be really fucking good.
Hey, don't give all the credit to the pilots, pretty damn good FAC to be able to get those rounds put there
A little bit more GAU-8 lore for ya... The reason A-10s only fire in bursts isn't just because of the angle they have to fire at (being that they are moving AND pointed at the ground) is because the kick on the GAU is so strong that if fired for to long it can slow the plane [del]to a stall.[/del] I talked to a guy who used to fly them at an air show once (Tampa), said it was the most fear inducing sound he'd ever heard.
us army is OP as fuck
It's a pay-to-win world. Really needs balancing :v:

And the amount of munitions you can put on one... There's really no substitute for when you want CAS Just look at this fucking thing
whoever designed the plane to look so cool should get an award

They fire them in bursts as they only have rounds to effectively do so. firing them longer would cause them to spend way too much ammo (and risk overheating and damaging the barrels) and thus be forced to land and rearm faster. [editline]18:22[/editline] The plane couldn't carry enough ammo to slow itself to a stall even if it kept firing the gun 'till it goes click, so.

Seems I was thinking and typing 2 different things. :downs: But yeah, overheating and ammo waste makes a bit more sense.
I wonder what it feels like sitting ontop of that gun when you shoot it. Probably like death.
