Saturn has sixty-two moons, and hundreds of moonlets within it's rings. I think Saturn is plenty satisfied.
Yeah but those are tiny. We have the largest moon, relatively. That's pretty awesome.
We should go all GTA on Saturn and steal its rings
I can imagine the myths and stories humans would have created out of them.
If the earth had rings, comets would break off from the ring's gravitational field and decimate the world's cities.
Party pooper
I can imagine the myths and stories humans would have created out of them.
Christianity would have been all over that shit
Rings would be awesome, but we're pretty lucky to have the moon. No other planet has such a big moon that orbits so close (compared to the planet's size.) If aliens came here they might be like, holy fuck I wish our planet had a moon like that :v:
Christianity would have been all over that shit
no
What's with Ave Maria playing in the background
Puts all that effort into the video and decides to use a ridiculous looking graphic for the rings. Not to mention the visuals where completely off, wouldn't look anything like that (it would look beautiful though), the only thing he might have gotten right was the position I guess? Hard to say since the size wasn't even right.
I never say things are beautiful but... this is beautiful.
We need to convert the moon into rings.
If the earth had rings, comets would break off from the ring's gravitational field and decimate the world's cities.
Aren't Saturn's rings made out of peices of ice? So if our rings were small ice comets, wouldn't they just melt if they came into the atmosphere?
That would suck cause the meteors or asteroids what ever the rings are made out of would be falling to earth a lot.
Mother. Fucker. God damn it Earth, why the hell can't you be cool like all the other planets? Fuck the fact you have life, all you've got is a moon. Just one little goddamn moon.
Not "little", recall. The relatively biggest moon in the known universe by quite a margin.
Little by amount, not by size, is what I meant.
This is fucking beautiful.
Imagine how much different life on Earth would be if this were real.
Didn't we have a ring of space junk?
I didn't wish Earth had rings, It would made spaceflight way to difficult and the planet doesn't have enough gravity to hold rings like that. And we already have almost invisable rings made of debris from meteor impacts on Earth. Page King! And 200th post!
Ring stationary satellites.
I like things the way they are. The Moon exerts its own gravitational pull on the Earth, giving us the tides that are so crucial to ocean traffic. In the future, it could serve as a refuelling station for spacecraft. Not to mention it looks nice. Rings on the other hand, while I agree they would look cool, would have prevented the formation of life as we know it. Parts of the world (Australia for instance) would be in a semi-permanent shadow. These places would have climates similar to what we have just below the Arctic Circle, and that's at best. Many species that live in those areas today would never have formed. Plus, we would be under a constant meteor bombardment. Habitats and the coresponding species that we have today would be heavily damaged by constant impacts, and permanent settlements by humans would not be possible, if humans had ever evolved. No. We're better off without the rings. And by "we", I mean us, not the environment. The environment would have adapted to the rings. It might adapt to us, but if you ask me, we're screwing things up just a little too fast and a little too thoroughly for that. I don't want this to turn into an environmentalist argument though. [editline]03:18AM[/editline]
Ring stationary satellites.
The debris fields would make navigation to and from them difficult, and make radio and visual reception difficult. Being part of the ring system would not protect them from damage anyway. [editline]03:19AM[/editline]
Page King! And 200th post!
Have an E-Cookie.
