I agree with OP. I was born in 1990 and I can tell you that I miss the 90's so damn much. As for the debate on which decade was the best, I can't decide, because I can only think of the best CENTURY. The best century, hands down, the 1900's (20th century).
I'm proud to be a 20th century child. Why? 20th century was the most important century in history in my opinion. WE LIVED HISTORY.
We lived the bloodiest century in history, from the TWO world wars, to the cold war, cold war related conflicts like the vietnam war and the korean war. 20th century almost saw complete annihilation of the human race due to the cold wars potential nuclear war. We were old enough to witness and understand 9/11. 9/11 is HISTORY, it caused a war, a world wide man hunt and changed the way we fly today. Our rules and regulations in airports today were influenced by that day, the day we were old enough to witness.
We won't just be remembered for the conflicts and the suffering. In the 60's, our grandparents/parents were part of the love revolution, the music revolution, the political revolution. Icons like the Beetles, Jimi Hendrix and Che Guevara were active in these days. It was the first time we put anything into space (Sputnik - this was done in 1957), we put a man and woman into space, we put an animal into space, then we put a man on the moon!
This is the century that TV took off, the internet took off. One of the main reason I miss the 90's so much and believe it's better than the noughties is that unlike the noughties where it's ALL about technology, the 90's weren't. The 90's was were still pretty primitive with technology by today's standards. This caused us kids to not think about technology so much. The 90's was the last decade where although we had "good" technology - there was still a small essence of a "classical" theme if you will. Since it was the decade where our technology of today took it's LAST "evolutionary" step to becoming the iphone, the ipad, xbox360 and amazing computer graphics.
In 100years, children will be reading and watching documentaries about the events mentioned above in history class, just so you know 20th century folk, we were there.
I remember some parts of being a kid so clearly it could've been last month. Others... not so much. But I recall feeling like time was on my side, that I could live as a child for as long as I wanted. But now, it seems that the years I can spend enjoying my free time or becoming limited.
My time through high school has felt like it has flown by, I remember when I just started. But that was over 4 years ago.
Time seems to speed up along with your age.
Time. One of the most powerful forces in the universe. When combined with mind, it becomes inconsistent. Sometimes it passes too quickly to grasp, other times it flows so goddam slow and doesn't let go. It feels like years since I completed my college course, when in all reality it only ended a few weeks ago... It also seems not so long ago that I was just a kid, but that was YEARS ago, and now i'm 18. I've grown wiser over the years, but still many things elude me. I only pray I will eventually understand what I need.
