The most talked about straight razor brand is "Dovo", I'd list off some brands but I just don't much about straight razors. Another popular one, though expensive is Thiers Issard. I've heard people comparing SRs are much harder to use than DEs so I think it'll be safe to assume its much harder to use compared to a multiblade. It is a completely exposed blade after-all. I've heard people saying it takes months to learn how to get a decent shave with a SR.
If you decide to get one, you might find yourself cash-strapped if you want a nice handle as well though. A new and good quality SR costs decent money, a good SR with more than a basic handle costs even more. Not to mention you have to buy a strop and hone as well.
15, haven't had to shave before. Though now i'm noticing some facial hair springing up. Reccomendations?
50-80 dollar range I think would work. Not buying them yet.
50-80 dollar range?
can't you get a decent 4 blade (which is what i recommend starting out with) at walgreens for like 10 bucks?
really the thing that gets you are the razor cartridges, those things are what's going to run you the money.
i guess i'd ask... what's a good 4 blade brand with razors that are either cheap or last long. and remember this guy is dealing with advanced peach fuzz, not whiskers.
the reason why i suggest the 4 blade is because it has more spread out pressure points than a 3 blade. the problem with 4 blades in my experience, and why i've had to switch over to 3 is that they tend to get clogged real easy if you're shaving a true set of whiskers. also they're a fucking bitch to shave with when your hair gets bigger and thicker even with brand new razors because of the tug.
so my advice. start with a 4 cause it's like shaving with training wheels, then goto a 3 blade when it starts to really grow out.
maybe you can consider the gilette sensor excel? It isn't 3 or 4 blades but the shave "connoisseurs" at B&B seem to like it and the blades are much cheaper than what you'd expect with 3-5 blades.

Hey, all the Merkurs are sold out.
Should I get a Mühle R89?
That razor is infamous for its aggressiveness. I wouldn't recommend it, if its your first DE.

Okay, anything from this list you recommend then?
http://www.barbershop.no/barberutstyr/tradisjonell-barberhovel
Only conditions is that when you hold your mouse over it, it says "på lager" instead of "ikke på lager", and it's under kr. 600.

From the list I would recommend either the 34G or the short handled progress,

http://www.barbershop.no/barberutstyr/tradisjonell-barberhovel/barberhovel-justerbar/merkur-progress-tradisjonell-barberhovel.html
Between these two, I'd go for the 34G. It's not adjustable like the progress but the grip and feel on it is better in my opinion. Both of the razors seem to be in stock and under kr.600.
Bim, bom, diddely done. Here's my stuff:

Fuck an assault weapons ban, these things are more lethal than any firearm
New Barber shop opened here a year ago. The make you go back to the classic times, with a sigar, stiff drink, good conversation and a clean cut included in a shave.

They call it an old fashioned hangout for men, by men.
They even got featured in playboy.

I'd be weary to get a straight shave from those guys, though the shop looks nice and its always good to have those sort of places to regain some traction.
My basic setup. Lego stand because stands are expensive.

That's actually a damn-good idea, there :v:
How are the derbies compared to the feathers? I've never tried derbies before and they seem to be very hated in a lot of parts.
How are the derbies compared to the feathers? I've never tried derbies before and they seem to be very hated in a lot of parts.
I've only used derbies so I don't really have much to compare them with, but they seem to work fine for me. I feel like they wear out pretty fast, but that may just be because I let my hair grow a lot before I shave. In other news, I drew blood for the first time shaving today. It was weird, I got two little bloody spots on my neck, almost like I pulled out a hair and it started bleeding or something. They were like gone after I rinsed my neck though.

I'm so late, but yeah that's really good. Hopefully you went and bought that stuff anyways because its all really solid.
Does anyone know a good place to buy wet shaving stuff from in sweden? I have to throw out all my old razors and I figure I might as well start with something that looks classy (plus I hate having lather on my hands), and I don't want to shell out the extra delivery cost from buying abroad.
just bought the basic Dovo straight razor also have miraki shavette ordered as well, if i suddenly stop posting i probably killed myself

you can always pick up a shavette to try out straight razor shaving, for people who already have a DE they dont even need to buy blades so its pretty cheap
as for a proper straight razor you can put off purchasing a hone unless your buying a vintage razor as new razors come honed even then you can send the blade off to be honed, a strop can be almost as much as the cheapest Dovo though
bought a bit more stuff and shavette arrived, think the miraki blades might be non-standard as they are as long as the straight razor, that wilkinson soap in the blue dish is reasonable for what it cost and the fact its easily available, the brush sucks though
not had a chance to try the straight or shavette, only just bought strop and i shaved with disposable yesterday so not enough stubble yet

My Edwin Jagger 89 is being delivered tomorrow. Hoping it will be a nice change from an electric shaver that I currently have..
Guys get an alum block not only is it good for your skin it will make you a better shaver.
Trust me when I say you will feel razor burn and any nicks!!
I get really bad acne if I use an electric razor. I honestly think shaving with a normal razor gives a better quality shave and keeps my skin from turning into a mountain range of disgusting acne.

Being a newbie to razors I have done just the thing. As nips and cuts are bound to happen
