I hate shaving :/
I get really bad acne if I use an electric razor. I honestly think shaving with a normal razor gives a better quality shave and keeps my skin from turning into a mountain range of disgusting acne.
Really? I have moderate ance that comes and goes, but can electric razors seriously influence it?
Really? I have moderate ance that comes and goes, but can electric razors seriously influence it?
I used to get bad razor burn that gave me acne, but changing to an electric made it stop.
Really?
Really? Using quality shaving lather I only get minor breakouts now and then.
This makes me even more excited to have my new double edge delivered today!
Just had my first ever razor shave then! Been using electric all my life, what a mistake! That has to be the smoothest thing ever! Only nipped under my chin. Being new to razors I did find it a little difficult to do the curving of my chin but I guess that will come with more experience! Thank you to all in this thread, you have truly shown me something amazing, I feel great!
I know it sounds a tad strange but I could have a shit day or w/e and after spending 30 minutes going through my shaving routine makes the day feel / seem a lot better.
Not strange at all. Pretty sure regular routines are psychologically wired to make you feel better (not every routine, you know what I mean), plus shaving in itself is a psychologically boosting activity (at least for me, I feel happy as fuck once I've shaved and look neat). If I'm feeling shit, my wet shaving routine cheers me up too.
Ordered some I Coloniali cream after hearing that it could be better than the almost finished Castle Forbes I have. I also got some speick aftershave coming to my door as well, I forgot how these simple things could actually get me to looking forward to shave. I also went to the darkside and I am using a proglide with a "razorpit" sharpener time to time. It doesn't really sharpen blades, more than it actually cleans them. But it really extends the life of cartridge blades and makes shaving with a cartridge razor actually doable in my opinion. Beforehand and without it in my opinion, I was only able to use those things just a couple times before I would want to change the blade.
As long as I don't add extra pressure to a Merkur 34 or slide it sideways I should be fine as far as nicks and cuts go right?
yes, don't add extra pressure and never slide it sideways.
Alright sweet, also what was that in the OP about feather blades requiring more skill or something?
The feather blades are sharper than other blades, you just need to be aware of it. They demand a little more care if you want to avoid any nicks.
What would be best razor, that's really cheap? And anything else that needs to go with the razor.

Does anyone here have a straight razor? Does it shave actually any closer for you than a DE or a good cartridge razor?
i have the basic dovo although i dont use it much, kinda think i need to send it to be honed as it pulls a bit even after stroping. might just be bad angle though, i have never really cut myself with it but its tricky to use. also have a shavette might use that to learn straight shave technique and have dovo honed, i dont think feathers are really that sharp, atg in my merkur 1904 they always pull and leave blood spots
