I've changed blades mid shave because i thought this was the issue but it happens even with new blades. only when i shave my chin though
If you're using low quality blades that might be an issue. I used value blades from my local supermarket once and cut myself up something awful

Holy shit do I have a fucking story about that.
It was during University last year, when I was starting to run out of money. I really needed to shave for this job interview at Macy's (you guys might remember that story from the Retail thread), so I ran to the supermarket and bought a bag of shitty, $2 razors. I've never cut myself so many times shaving in my fucking life! Not even with other brands! If I could remember the name I would tell you guys to steer clear, but let's face it:
If you don't want a shitty shave or you don't want to turn yourself into a fucking deli section, don't buy shitty cheap razors. I cut myself a good five times in one shave and took off a mole. I was almost ready to go stomping back and rip the manager a new asshole for keeping those things off the shelf, Chinese manufactured shit.
real men shave dry

Says the guy whose probably never shaven in his life (note: peach fuzz on your balls doesn't count)
ho ho ho we got a comedian in the thread. I started shaving way longer than you have.
I've always wanted to try switching to a safety razor.
I started with electric, but I switched to disposable ones a couple years ago and didn't look back. Safety razors seem even better.
I'll probably pick one up when I run out of replacement cartridges for my disposable.

Real men (with several fucking cuts and razor-burn and want a shitty cut, and even possibly epidermal damage) shave dry

This comes to mind :v:
I started with razors doing wet shaves and all, but it took far too long. Switched to dry, electrical razors and it's now way quicker.
Just for the fun of it, some of the most expensive DE razors.

I hate shaving. It's time consuming, you have to do it near as makes no difference every day to keep it clean, razorburn is horrible, razors and the accompanying products cost money etc.
I just give myself a quick do-over with an electric trimmer once/twice a week to cut it down from neckbeard to stubble, I have no need or desire to be clean shaven and as long as I don't let it grow for more than a few days I don't look like a complete bum.

Most people switch to DE Shaving because they hated shaving before.
My parents went on holiday, step father took my electric razor for whatever reason. I wasn't going to let myself grow a beard for the next few weeks so I went out and bought some gillette multiblade thingy and some gel. Step father can keep the damn razor, this shit is awesome.
After this thread I think I'll be investing in a "proper" razor now once my blades go dull and the gel runs out
19yo here, started using electric shaver. Damn thing was useless. Switched to wetshaving with cheap ass foam & cheap ass 2 blade throw away razors. Finish isnt bad but would switching to a safety razor be another step in the right direction? Just slightly worried as to cutting my neck to shit, managed to the first time I tried to wet shave...
I saw this thread and since I haven't shaved for three weeks I thought I might as well do it right.
After some calling I found out my grandmother had my great-grandfathers DE razor.

the knife and the nacet razors are about 70 (prob more) years old, they're double packed and still sharp as fuck.
Now to get some shaving soap and maybe a brush. I've only shaved electric so far so i'm interested.

The problem with avatars is that I hear the comment in the voice of the avatar. Like Neil Tyson.

that should turn out interesting, using such an old kit for the first time in ages. Those blades look like they would be considered new old stock and they should shave just alright if they're not bad blades to begin with.

Just shaved with it, yeah the blades are pristine. I got one tiny nick but the result is worth it I must say. It just feels so good man, i'm honestly looking forward to shaving again.
I get pimples every now and then on my chin/upper neck so I would never dare shave with this method, I'd cut myself open every time.

I always wanted to shave with one of these but I'm afraid that I would chop some part of my face off since I normally shave in the morning when I'm half asleep. Though I like the idea of not applying any pressure and letting the blade do its job on its own as well as not having to constantly buy new blades.
Though I think I'll eventually be forced to shave this way due to my hair being very strong and growing faster and faster each week, which sucks. My grandfather had a full grown beard in around 5 hours and I think that it will also be my destiny.
So has anyone else, apart from MightyMax, had some very frightening experiences when shaving with something like this or with DE razors, like having the razor do some serious damage after getting a micro tick or getting distracted?
Do you guys know of any retail stores here on the west coast in the United States that would sell high-quality safety razors, or just razors like the ones you're all using here in the thread?
I'm fine with ordering online, but I have a bad case of instant gratification :v:
There might be a few, but the only "chain" store that I know that carries that sort of stuff is the "Art of Shaving". The problem is that store isn't really the best place to buy things from, as their prices are way higher than what you would see online, their selection isn't too good either. (They only sell their own creams/soaps and merkur brand blades which kind of suck).
I'd just order from amazon or westcoast shaving, you'll get the stuff soon enough.

Did you use 70 year old shaving soap as well? :V Good to hear that something that old worked out so well for you though.

I could have actually, but I decided against it. Are nacet razors still made?

They still apparently have blades on westcoast shaving, though it says those are made in India. What brand was the razor you used?

I'll probably switch to feather or something of the likes when the nacet razors run out, or just to try out different blades.
I've got no idea where the razor came from or what brand it is, it's got no markings.
i've also never seen a DE razor with the kind of teeth this one has at the edges, it seems to make it pretty easy to not cut yourself, whats up with that?

the wrappers are going for 3.75 a piece? Fuck i just threw some away.
the teeth means it's an "open-comb" design, most razors are "closed-comb". If you thought the razor was easy to use without it cutting you might mean it's more of a "mild" design where the blade the and it's angle is held back a bit from the guard. An aggressive razor is the opposite of this, it'll shave closer but it needs a little more care as well when using it.
Yeah, feather is good. They're pretty expensive as far as de blades go and they get dull pretty quick as well, but I love them for how sharp they are. In fact feather makes surgical knives and scalpels in the same factory where they make their razor blades.
Other good blades are astras, personna reds, and gillette 7 o' clocks.

Ah damn, thats kind of interesting. I wonder how much they would have been worth unused. NOS blades can fetch a bit of higher price, but most I've seen weren't really that much more expensive than new blades.
