I have never cut myself shaving, what are you guys doing wrong? Just wet face, shaving cream, push razor onto face and drag. Repeat 2-3 more times if you want it to be really close.
Some people's hair is a lot tougher than others, which makes it impossible to get a close shave, at least on my face, everywhere else is easy.
If you have bad acne will this shit cut you up a storm? :v:
I use a Gillette Mach3. Yes, the blades are ridiculously expensive, but I haven't found a razor that impresses me as much as the Mach3. Not to mention, a blade lasts me for about a month, and that's with me shaving every day.
Send boxes.
How quickly can you shave with a DE razor? I've never had any problems using my mach3 other than it taking ages, so if a DE'll do the job in less time I'll probably switch.

Haven't had any problems yet.

Naw, if anything it's more gentle.

I think the Mach3 is actually a lot better than the other cartridge razors.

It takes more time to shave with a DE, 10-15 minutes. Many people don't mind that though as shaving with a DE feels less like chore than it does with a multiblade.

That is the only real downfall of the Mach3. That and it gets hair stuck on the sides. Can't have it all I guess.

hey lamar,
i frequent the fix up look sharp thread and I got $50 credit at jackthreads from people using my invite link and buying shit and realized it about 2 days ago, i've been searching at random stuff and i found this shaving set:

it has a razor that supports a mach3 blade so it's not exactly a de razor but will this do for the time being? it's $50 btw, apparently retail it's "$120" which makes no sense
(reason i chose this is because i hardly have the money to upfront and this will be a good work around)
You can a brush and a mach3 for 10 bucks each, so it doesn't seem like a very good deal.
alright, i'll see if it's possible to give anyone jackthread cash
Buying all this when my new debit card comes in.
- Parker 96r Razor ($28.77)
- Tweezerman brush ($9.14)
- Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream ($14.88)
- Old Spice Classic After Shave ($7.96)
If you're okay with using an "old" razor, I'd recommend the Gillette Slim. It's also has butterfly doors, but with the addition of being adjustable (lets you set aggressiveness of shave). The old Gillette razors were very good. 20-40 dollars on ebay.

Alright, I don't wet shave but holy shit. Whenever I try to shave my neck and around my jaw bones, I cannot get the hair unless I go against the grain which makes my hair look raggedy as hell whenever it grows back and its really freakin irritating. What can I do so I don't have to shave against the grain and still get off all the hair?
Not much really, if you have a straight razor or a really aggressive DE then you can get close just by going with the grain.
Damn, looks like I'll have scraggily hair around my neck forever.
Do you do wtg then atg? Or just straight to atg? You could try across the grain too. I use an EJ89 which is pretty mild, so I usually skip wtg, then do one xtg out to in, then another in to out. That's usually my minimum, and then most of the time I finish it off with an atg pass. Also make sure you're prepping right. There's no perfect method, so you just kinda gotta experiment.
Hell I don't even know, I just know that I take the razor and I go straight down my face cause my dad told me if I shave up, it'll look weird if I ever try to grow a beard.
I don't think that would make a difference, also what works for him won't necessarily work for you since everyone's facial grows differently. Why not just get a DE? It should stop the irritation you're getting.

Soak your hair first, hot towel or just in the shower, apply some moisturiser to your beard then shave the problem parts last, the heat and moisturiser should soften the hair enough. If not, try with the grain then across the grain before going against, taking off too much at once can fuck your skin up

A good badger brush would cost you more than 10 bucks, boar bristle ain't worth shit IMO
I thought you could get some decent horse hair brushes for around $10-$15? I've never tried one but I've heard some good things about them.

The brush I have in the OP is a badger brush and only 8 dollars. It's works pretty nicely.
Hmm fair enough, decent brushes here are expensive as fuck
Just got some new shaving cream from the local ren fair, never heard of it before but I figured I'd try something local. Let's see how it goes.
This thread has inspired me.
Hopefully some time tomorrow I plan to drop $125 on a Merkur 34C HD, Taylor of Bond Street Shaving Cream, 100 Astra Double-Edge Safety Razor Blades, Omega Boar Bristle Professional Shaving Brush, Proraso New Formula Pre-Post Shaving Cream, & a Nickel-Plated Stand.
Can't wait to start wet shaving!

Nice welcome to the brotherhood, I'd recommend you try a blade sampler first before you make any bulk orders of blades though!
In unrelated news, I just had my best shave with this today. It's an all-natural cream from WholeFoods. I've never seen something use as many ingredients as this cream does, it might explain why it did such a good job as well. I don't know If I can say it's better than TOBS just yet, but the shave it has given me so far was better than anything I've ever gotten.

I'm diving headfirst into this. I want to shave properly! Besides, the 100 pack is only like $10, I figured I might as well pick it up now.
Also I decided on a badger brush instead.
bought a brand new knife and for now it's sharp enough to shave with. won't last though
Weird, I was just thinking about taking up wet shaving today.
It's a pretty big up front cost for a double edged razor but holy SHIT it's cheaper over time than cartridges. 100 razors for $9? It's like $15 for a 4-pack of Gillette fusion cartridges.
yeah, it's astronomically cheaper to buy blades for a DE. But I've found that cost-savings from cheaper blades gets funneled into other stuff, like buying ridiculous amounts of shave gear. I've been pretty modest and only accumulated 3 DE Razors and a dozen or so kinds of creams, but it can get worse... very worse.
