Arguably, this entire emulation project has secured Halo's future on PC and has significantly increased the chances of Master Chief Collection coming to PC. Go look on Neogaf and you will see people looking forward to the arrests of the individuals involved in the reverse engineering of Halo:Online for "theft" My entire argument is A.) Russian guy plays Halo Online, doesn't pay a cent for microtransactions/unlocks B.) American guy plays Halo Online, plays the modded version patched for English language without microtransactions in the build Is it really any different? Microsoft has the opportunity to make a huge amount of money by releasing Master Chief Collection while pushing Windows as "the gaming platform of choice for PCs". If they don't, they'll make nothing off us.
It is very different because Microsoft owns the Halo IP and only they can decide what they want to do. If they don't want to put it on PC, that's their choice not modders. The modders are commiting a laundry list of crimes and are going to get buttfucked by Microsoft hard. But hopefully they can finish it before that happens.
If Halo 4 had dropped perks and had the thruster pack, it would have been really special. Of course, I say the same thing about Reach.
My main problem with 4's multiplayer is how much 343i was (and still is, with 5) trying to turn it into a Call of Duty clone. They're basically slowly taking away what uniqueness the series had and turning it into a dime-a-dozen casual shooter.

It is not a bad game, and while mistakes were certainly made, it is still very much a good game. Do you have any examples of 343 making Halo into a casual shooter aside from Halo 4? Halo Online looks gimmicky but a (currently) Russian-only work in progress doesn't count for much.
Microsoft dangled a carrot in front of the rabbit and got pissed when it got eaten. They've been well aware that the PC community is desperate for Halo. At this point, the only way to stop the modders is to release MCC. Its now a matter of them making some money or no money at all. Long story short, we won
Microsoft could do the following 1. Halo on PC (MCC or seperate games I don't give a fuck let's just get it on there first) and make lods of emone and be done with it. 2. Spend Even more money and time on legal shit and end up just pissing off the fan base, which would result in more folks playing the Hacked f2p. Like, how is that even a fucking choice that you have to think about? Are they that desperate to sell Xbox Ones to prevent themselves from releasing Halo on PC?
Ayy how do you spawn other people?
Have friends
Microsoft wanted as much money as possible out of Halo, and their willingness to stomp on their fanbase in order to maximize profit ultimately bit them in the ass. If this takes off even more without their intervention, they will lose millions. Considering how terribly they've treated the fanbase, I can't say I sympathize. Looking forward to seeing more. The potential here is incredible

Even if there are shared elements in movements and weapon handling, how the fuck could any shooter with even starts and no loadouts or perks be considered anything like COD, a game built entirely on those two things? Halo 5 shares some superficial features with COD, but Halo 4 had the backbone. I want to play Halo 5 again right now. I don't want to play Halo 4 again. There's a reason for that.

I mean, just give everyone sprint and its still just fine.
oh my god my DICK halo combat evolved modding, and to an extent, custom edition is what got me into modding games. it's fucking sweet to see at least some modern version of halo on pc once again.

It looks like 5 is just upping the ante with iron sights, we'll see what else they do.

I forgot how much I actually missed the death sounds from Halo 3
Sooner or later, someone's going to attempt to put in Halo 3's campaign. And I hope to god that they succeed.
Sooner or later, someone's going to attempt to put in Halo 3's campaign. And I hope to god that they succeed.
It's not as simple as cutting and pasting it all in, the general format differs greatly. It'd be done by importing old assets into the relevant cache .dat files, then importing the BSPs and scripts into a .map; then there's actually fixing ALL the shaders due to the console shaders being swizzled.... Yeah, I'll stop there. Btw it took nearly 4 years to get injection sorted on the console third gen Blam! engines...

Everyone keeps hearing "HALO THREE ENGINE ON PEECEE" and "NEW CUSTOM EDITION WHEN" but it all just seems to be wild misinformation. The game uses a modified version of the Halo 3 engine - modified, not the same; the way it's modified means that many of the old assets are incompatible and other parts of the game are just changed outright. There's also no editing kit or other tools with it and no access to the source code, meaning that getting a CE version of it running is nigh-impossible.

Pretty sure he was pointing out the fact that everybody bitches about halo 4/5 being cod like while ignoring the fact that Reach had loadouts and not nearly as many people bitched about that
"Hey microsoft we want this game so much we're willing to fucking make it our selves what do you say to that ?" "b-but russia"
So is there eventually going to be a Facepunch thread/instructions on how to get this to work + custom servers and all that? This is supposedly F2P right?
I was talking specifically about halo 5. Idk what a reach screenshot has to do with it.
You replied to a comment about halo 4 (which also had loadouts) But, it's good to see that H5 is removing this aspect

Wait, I recognise this map, it was originally covered with snow but it looks like they've retextured it into a desert map.
sidewinder
It's actually Halo 3's Avalanche with a desert texture, which was a re-imagining of Sidewinder.
