Spaghetti Bolognese. Make it the day before and reheat it. Something about making it the day before makes it taste a million times better. Also, add some tinned tomato soup to the sauce (I can't remember how much exactly) because it makes it incredible.
Tenderloin with scalloped potatoes.
Make a vast pallet of mexican food. Give them terrible gas in his new flat.
Baked mac & cheese. Use a good sharp cheddar like Cooper. Takes 4 cups of whatever cheese you intend to use ( mild is better ), grated. About half of a full block like you see in the deli case. Avoid cheese that is oily when melted unless you like soupy mac & cheese, some milk, butter, flour, and a 1 pound box of elbow macaroni. Prepare elbows according to box, preheat oven to 350F. Drain noodles, pour into 9x13 glass baking dish ( metal is fine, but I feel glass doesn't burn things as easy ). The goal of the sauce is to melt the cheese in about a quart of milk ( depending on how much it takes to get to a sauce consistency ) with some salt, pepper, maybe a little hot sauce, and a tablespoon of all purpose flour. Heat over medium low until melted smooth, stirring often, and pour mixture evenly over the pasta. Make sure to get as much out of the container as possible as the cheese will set and be a mess to clean. Bake at 350 for half an hour or until the top is starting to brown. I wish I had more precise measurements, but I learned this recipe from my grandmother so the only thing I know for sure is the pasta, cheese, and flour. This can comfortably feed four people if that is all that is on the table. Goes well with stewed tomatoes, baked beans, grilled sausages, really anything that is typical picnic food. I prefer this style over the ones that involve layering the pasta with shredded cheese and then pouring the milk down over it - my grandmother does this a lot and it comes out on the mealy side. It's great with some ketchup on it, but alone it's somewhat off. Consider mixing in cooked ground sausage ( "Hot" or "Spicy" marked varieties tend to work well with cheese ), sliced hot dogs, rendered bacon ( most of the fat cooked off ) broken into chunks, or any number of vegetables that pair well with cheese, such as broccoli, cauliflower, caramelized onions, and what have you. Simple, relatively cheap ( quarter gallon of milk, 20 bucks of cheese depending on where you get it and what kind, maybe a baking dish that can be used over and over, plus mix-ins ), and generally a crowd pleaser. Other simple things include: Stuffed pork chops on the grill with roasted or steamed asparagus Pulled pork / chicken barbeque. Grilled / fried Catfish fillets with hush puppies, fries, or chips
Spaghetti, or macaroni, It's really cheap, and really easy to make. [editline]05:12PM[/editline] ah, ninjas.
Stuffed peppers with mashed potatoes. Buy 5 peppers, then fill them with a hamburger and rice mix, then bake in the oven for approx. 4 hours with marinara sauce over them. Delicious, and 1 pepper is very filling.
This is a great party food. It's cheap, easy to make(a bit long to cook) and is overall filling.
