At least this isn't possible anymore. You gotta give some props to Bethesda though, their game was super compressed, it was a big step up from oblivion, and it's open world where as COD is tiny.

What? I know it's cool to hate on EA right now, but they're not related in any way, shape or form

Hey guys, you know that popular thing? I don't like it. Look, see?
This is just another example of COD hate elitism, you guys realise for instance Source 2 will just be an upgraded version of source? and are you guys gonna care? no you wont you will be screaming and crying like pre-teens at a bieber concert. You have to be blind to not see that they have significantly ramped the visuals on this iteration of cod.

it's funny because this is unironically your view of call of duty

Here's the (almost) complete family tree of the Quake Engine. Misses a few title such as Prey.
This game is still based on the fucking Quake 3 Engine.
Pretty crazy all those games still use Quake.
And dont a lot of a multiplayer games use Quakes netcode because it is so fucking good?

Can't say it works too well for CoD.
Have had too many times where I've died instantly only to find out that my opponent actually shot me 3 times within two seconds.
Horrible desyncs man.

Except I was giving legit reasons and not being a petulant teenager.

You can really tell especially in the MP, even if I hadn't played any CoD before, it'd be instantly obvious from having played ST:EF and SoF
Honestly, he makes a valid point. Developing an entire new, modern, engine in 2 years would be impossible. He also is right about the dangers of starting from scratch, redoing absolutely everything when the engine you already have does certainly cover at least the basics is pointless. Don't get me wrong, they definitely need to make a lot of improvements to their engine, probably more than they have, but restarting from scratch is borderline suicide so it's much more practical to upgrade what you have.
It was arguably dishonest to claim it was a new engine though.
every bioshock game still uses unreal 2 at it's core. this is nothing particularly new or bad even. they could still use the exact same "engine" and completely rework the ways in which the game functions without changing the core engine
HL2 hasn't been sold to us 5 times, that's what
*cough* counterstrike *cough*
I knew this wasn't a coincidence.

By the way, I don't hate CoD because of the gameplay or graphics although they could use a bit of work. It's the price tag, annual releases and complete commercializing of the game. Activision makes these games for the money which is entirely logical move but at this point I as a gamer can't find any new experience in them.

Infinite uses Unreal 3. I liked Unreal 2 but you can tell the difference between 1/2 and Infinite.

That bugs the everlasting fuck out of me.
I still haven't heard a valid reason why it's so awful to use an old engine
and I definitely don't hear anyone complaining when a new source mod is released

This again?
Valve doesnt charge you $60 yearly for what ammounts to an expansion pack and some extra multiplayer content.
Not forgetting the $15 map packs.

So you're saying because of that the engine is bad.. or something? That's some superb logic right there.
And with Counter-Strike there's longer between them but even less changed than between Call of Duty games.

What critical meant is that you shouldn't complain about CoD reusing an old engine over and over if you think valve doing the same thing is fine.
The price is another matter, a valid point, I agree it's pretty stupid, but irrelevant in this discussion.
You know how much r&d would go into games if they tried to invent a new engine EVERY release? Not to mention the bugs that will come with releasing on a new engine.

something something look like a real dumbass
Why is everyone always so fussed about cod? Just don't buy it and play something else, like I do. I don't see a need to complain about their old engine or price or whatever else you can come up with.

Don't forget Oblivion actually quite had nice graphics for its time.

It's mostly the negative effects on the industry the franchise has presented. Before the first Modern Warfare, it was just another - if not solid - World War II series amongst the many. Once it popularized the modern shooter sub-genre and got Modern Warfare 2 churned out to profit even more than CoD4, though, the entire industry spun out of control as people tried fighting Modern Warfare's success or taking a piece of the profits and all failed horribly.
It's nearly as effective in affecting the first-person-shooter genre as something like Quake, except it really hurt it with a stagnation that even Battlefield's falling victim to - and Battlefield did modern combat before CoD4! v:v:v
