Real time prop resizing? :psyboom:
I don't really care for it, but next to nothing was explained about the video, so I'm reserving judgement. I know only one thing. I am not spending money on it.
why.
Hang on, Whats with the portal gun? Did i miss something?
Reading this thread, I feel like I'm in bizarro world or some shit. Most of the comments are about the fucking box art, and most of the rest are about how Garry needs to upgrade the engine. There's hardly any comments about the video, and I think I only saw one post about the motion controls. The fuck is going on here EDIT: Of course they post about the motion controls while I am typing this ff
Who really complains about box art? That's the equivalent of judging a book by it's cover.
Hang on, Whats with the portal gun? Did i miss something?
It now seems to have basic Physcannon properties (can pick things up and move them in and out , however can only do so when the object is close.) It can also modify the shape of certain cubes.
The motion controllers or the game.
Both.
I do hope that physgun stuff was just for the tech demo, not ingame.... Actually I dunno. I wouldn't want to have a physgun for the whole game. Maybe just like the last few levels or something, like the super gravity gun.
I'm pretty sure it was just for the tech demo, just as the prop resizing might have been. But it's still cool that the engine can do these things.

I did not see DYNAMIC FUCKING RESIZING coming. At all.
They should get rid of the Aperture logo on the cube thing. It just looks bad when the texture get's re-sized to shit.
I'm sure the texture on the faces of the resizable cubes will tile in later iterations.
The motion controllers or the game.
The motion controllers. I fucking love portal, that's a shoe in for my games list.
I would assume the textures are SUPPOSED to stretch horribly, as you are taking a cubic object and resizing it which it was obviously not designed to do. From a canonical standpoint.
Why not put a portal on one side, and a portal on the other. Something like this: [img_thumb]http://cdn.gamerant.com/wp-content/uploads/portal-2-gameinformer.jpg[/img_thumb] [editline]6th January 2011[/editline] The box art itself could be special. Hell, why not put a hole in the corner of the box itself or something. Would DEFINITELY stand out, and Valve have plenty of funds to do something crazy like that with.
Maybe this logo: The whole box art would just be that solid background texture, with the logo at the top obviously. They could probably pull off a transparent hole through the box. They might even be able to put the data on the outer ring of the disc and make the middle clear, but I'm not sure it'd be possible for the drive to find the start of the disc properly.
I do like the revised engine in this game
Wait, I thought SixSense was dead.
did Gabe lose weight? [editline]7th January 2011[/editline]
Please don't tell me I'll need a new computer for this game. I'll be absolutely devastated if I have to buy a new one... It KIND OF uses the same version of Source as Alien Swarm did, right? To be honest though, this has to be one of my most anticipated games of 2011.
a NEW COMPUTER????? just change your hardware with something better don't be stupid
did Gabe lose weight? [editline]7th January 2011[/editline] a NEW COMPUTER????? just change your hardware with something better don't be stupid
Hey, hey... Some people got the old of the oldest cards on the market which are not upgradeable to newly made ones. So that is why they have to buy a new pc instead of that 2001 computer.
did Gabe lose weight? [editline]7th January 2011[/editline] a NEW COMPUTER????? just change your hardware with something better don't be stupid
What if everything in his computer is outdated?
Holy crap I can't wait, I'm so excited for this game!
I wish Valve would stop delaying the main prize already. Portal was OK in my book. I didn't get insanely mad over it. I enjoyed playing it once but it's far from being in my top 10 or anything. Left 4 Dead provided me more longer-lasting enjoyment but I still didn't get much substance. TF2 has lost a lot of it's charm (preparing for box storm here) and I just cannot play it the same as I used to in the earlier days. Hats and trading and crafting seem to turn what was once a fresh and interesting concept into just a MMO without the questing and bigger social interactions. Valve, we want Half Life. Not zombie shooters, not bland hat fests, and not portal puzzles. Go back to what you got your fanbase from. Give us what we've been wanting for so long. Most of us are loyal fans of Valve since they do produce quality in their products. I just want them to put the quality into what we all have been dying to hear about for a couple of years. My respect for Valve has quite honestly gone down. They used to be my favorite studio and now they're 2nd place, maybe 3rd. I'll play Portal 2 because I know it'll be a quality game. I do wish Valve would realize though what their fans want before they start losing them. Even DNF has more info and a release date set before EP3. That is just simply pathetic Valve.
What they are doing, testing things. Is great. Unlike the money milking ones, same old, same old.
I don't think you understand my point. Valve wouldn't be anything without Half Life. We all (most at least) got into Source through Half Life. It had great gameplay for the time and an interesting plot. Now we have been abandoned to quite honestly rubbish spin off source engine games. We buy them up because it's precious Valve and they have a high reputation from Half Life.
The point is, everyone loves VALVe for beeing "Community Near and Communicative", but in real, thats just what it seems like, they dont communicate or discuss with us, they just steal ideas that are posted and hire modders which gives them a look of beeing community near because these people were the community. But theres no crediting for ideas from the community, theres not even a reply, they take it, use it, change it and dont care who brought it up.

That's sad because it's actually pretty popular now and we seem to credit it all to Chet.

Half-Life was the Portal 2 of its time. But old things get outdated and replaced with new, more fun and original ideas. For better gaming experiences.

Do you think Valve would be worth a spec on the gaming world without having broken into PC with Half Life? Fuck no. We wouldn't know their name today. Now they pump out Portal, Left 4 Dead, their daily TF2 hat's, and other crap which is honestly getting old. Valve hasn't had any original ideas either. Remember our precious Portal was originally an indie game that was picked up. Save for L4D, Valve hasn't created anything on their own records. They're not community hands on or anything special. Say what you will about Activision but Black Op's was actually an enjoyable game and it took a couple of years. Valve cannot even produce an image in that time span.
They are like Activision already. You remember that they are selling ingame items for horrible prices in TF2? Just because its not necessary and you have a random chance to still get it is a stupid joke. You remember that they wanted to sell Alien Swarm Campaigns? Sure, their games are/were great, but TF2 lost everything for me with the Mann Co. Update, and Alyx is absolutly right about the fact that they never came up with anything after Half Life, they just picked up parts of mod teams.

I do not see Portal 2 becoming old any time soon with that engine or gameplay ideas.
