The Fallout lore is nuts, man. There's so much. Just going through the timeline on the Fallout wiki from start to finish is hours of reading material in it's own.
Plus there's the Fallout Bible which is included with the GOG.com version of Fallout 1 and 2 that includes a lot of lore insight and behind the scenes stuff. One of the best parts in when Chris Avellone told the story of when Ron Perlman threatened to beat the crap out of him when he was recording a hundred lines of dialogue in 2 hours during Fallout 2's production.
The BoS and Outcasts talk a shitton about old Fallouts, even namedropping Midwest BoS. Then there is Harold. The Enclave also talk about their journey east and the whole oil rig incident. Yeah, the didn't exactly ignore it. I think people are mad about the application.
Oh they certainly were, hell I was at least annoyed. I just brought it up because of the earlier claim that there isn't any reason to play 1, 2, NV prior to 4.
if super mutants become behemoths with age why isn't fawkes super swole questions that keep me up at night
If anyone's looking for an even more extreme in-depth explanation of the lore and history behind Fallout, I'd recommend watching this video series on YouTube: The playlist contains 50+ videos explained in detail about Vault-Tec, the factions, the Brotherhood of Steel, the Enclave, etc. This would be especially useful for people who are going to be playing Fallout 4 with no background about the series whatsoever.
I have read about anything related to Fallout.. When New Vegas came out it was double christmas for me. First of all there was a whole new Fallout game but second of all this would mean that for the upcoming weeks/months we will be getting fresh new loads of information regarding the Fallout universe. And that was just Fallout New Vegas which sorta kinda did not had a massive impact on the existing Fallout lore, Fallout 4 however.. How it all happened 200 years after the nuclear war... God fucking damnit is am hyped. :blaze:
Uh I remember quite vividly how people cried that Fallout 3 raped the lore. Am I the only one who remembers that vicious Fallout board that went on an outright propaganda campaign against Fallout 3? There was a thread about it on FP years ago. Even before I came to FP, I remember friends who loved F1-2 raging over the third instalment for its numerous lore/mechanic changes.
Was the site No Mutants Allowed? Yeah, I remember they were VERY vocal of how much they didn't like FO3 - i think it was mostly the BoS rape that they were pissed off with
The BoS are largely a sect of assholes though, with the outcasts in 3 being a sect of a small sect.
tbh after playing through the first two again they're really not that bad
tbh after playing through the first two again they're really not that bad
In the first one they literally send you on a suicide mission just so you won't bother them any more. Granted they begrudgingly honor their word when you succeed. They're not remotely evil or anything, just insular and a bit "holier than thou" when it comes to dealing with non-members.

The Fallout Bible probably puts it best
The Brotherhood are generally good guys, but they have their faults - (1) they don't care for mutants, (2) they worship technology, and in many cases, put it above human life, and (3) they don't like to share their choicest technological bits, despite the obvious benefits their technology could bring to the wasteland. It's commonly accepted within the Brotherhood that the people of the wasteland are not responsible enough to use (and maintain) all of the technology the BOS has at their disposal. They are known trade some of their technologies with frontier communities and NCR states, but they keep the more sensitive technologies to themselves.
