Pretty much no one knows what hypocrite actually means, but the invented idea of hypocrisy is still treated as a bad thing in reality it's very useful. If someone does drugs or something they are in the best position to tell you why not to do them.

A week would do a lot, but if you want to reset your tolerance you should stop for a month or so. You'll see the biggest difference after about 1 week, though.
