The most incredible piece of music i've ever heard.

I was joking jeez.
point in case, good musicians will always try different and different things
John Cage has been composing music for decades, and his melodic pieces are of the same quality as fucking silence, it's still art
a musician is going to change his views of his art over the course of tens of years
here let me give you an example that's not John Cage
uh fucking Moondog will do yeah

and a huge fucking time difference
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7guHqujmrs
both are art, and it's not pretentious in the slightest. once again, a musician is going to experiment, and that experimentation is what makes them great - almost everyone who likes music can find a style from one specific musician that he adores
for example, I might just like John Cage's 4'33" the most! what about it
So by sitting here in silence I'm actually performing music. Good to know.
it would music to a lot of peoples ears im sure heHE
Why are people applauding it? It's literally nothing, no talent, no performance, not even a single note.
Still better than skrillex though.
The guy in the video did it pretty incorrectly by the looks of it. He used a stopwatch as a timer or something like that, you're supposed to be counting the beats in the bar (or measure if you're an American) and go by that, not by a real timer. It does take musical ability to read and follow music, especially counting and subdividing notes on a stave.
are you serious right now
4 33 is an incredibly clever piece
I don't see how it's clever. It's a period of silence wherein the background sound that was always present is audible. Same experience as a few minutes of silence in remembrance of something
By the way that's not to say I agree 4'33'' wasn't a cop-out. I wouldn't pay money to watch an orchestra performing it any day.
argh this is stupid to even argue about
yeah this is pretty fucking dumb
why is this even a thing and why are people even defending this
yeah this is pretty fucking dumb
why is this even a thing and why are people even defending this
because they know better than to immediately dismiss something they can't understand
yeah this is pretty fucking dumb
why is this even a thing and why are people even defending this
Because some people are open-minded and don't immediately dismiss something they're not particularly interesting.
yeah this is pretty fucking dumb

its a thing because art happens to sometimes maybe possibly kind of do something different?
experimentation is a good thing, even if it sometimes doesn't work

i dont think my nearest record vendor sells broken records
i dont think my nearest record vendor sells broken records
i cant imagine the hard times youre going through :(
So why are people so hell-bent on "proving" everyone that his idea of music is the only true.
I liked this piece of music

There is a difference between not understanding something and thinking something is shit.
There is a difference between not understanding something and thinking something is shit.
But just because some people think that something is shit doesn't mean that it shouldn't exist
There is a difference between not understanding something and thinking something is shit.
Actually not really
most music is redeemable and if you think its shit then you categorically are showing a lack of understanding as to why it appeals to other people
[editline]2nd June 2013[/editline]
by saying 'this is shit' you betray your ignorance
But just because some people think that something is shit doesn't mean that it shouldn't exist
Of course not, I just think that this shouldn't be called music. Performance art maybe, but not music.
Here is a Wikipedia article on 4'33 since everyone's dismissing it. The whole point behind the piece was to challenge the idea of music (as well as silence) altogether. Something that is pretentious is pretty bad, but it's even worse when people misuse the term and just label whatever they don't understand as just dumb.
Notably:
4′33″ is an example of automatism. Since the Romantic Era composers have been striving to produce music that could be separated from any social connections, transcending the boundaries of time and space. In automaticism, composers wish to completely remove both the composers and the artist from the process of creation. This is motivated by the belief that what we think of as "self-expression" is really just an infusion of the art with the social standards that we have been subjected to since birth. Therefore, the only way to achieve truth is to remove the artist from the process of creation. Cage achieves that by employing chance (e.g. use of the I Ching, or tossing coins) to make compositional decisions. In 4′33″, neither artist nor composer has any impact on the piece, so that Cage has no way of controlling what ambient sounds will be heard by the audience.

Of course not, I just think that this shouldn't be called music. Performance art maybe, but not music.
So who are you to define what's music and what is not? This falls under the definition of music, thus it is music, even if you don't like it.
But just because some people think that something is shit doesn't mean that it shouldn't exist
Nobody said you can't make it, the point is it is shit
Of course not, I just think that this shouldn't be called music. Performance art maybe, but not music.
this has nothing to do with performance art, performance art is a dadaist concept
Whatever I'm gonna go listen to dubstep.
Nobody said you can't make it, the point is it is shit
only ignorant people call an artistic piece shit unironically
Nobody said you can't make it, the point is it is shit
How about this guy
