I think it's more that things like TV and Toys were shared experiences for us. Not everyone can relate when one of us talks about a cherished childhood memory visiting the grand canyon, or trying some new food for the first time because those memories are personal and special to each and everyone one of us.
However, stuff like Cartoon Network, Pokemon and Hot Wheels were something we all experienced.
I can understand it being a conversational topic, but the weird emphasize on the past's products almost transcends it. I've had my fair share of dumb conversations on Hangin' With Mr. Cooper and Seinfeld, but I don't think I especially miss either of them (because there are shows on now about as good as Seinfeld and ones that are considerably better then Mr. Cooper). I find it easier to talk about the last episode of It's Always Sunny then the episode of Seinfeld where George goes crazy over Frogger because I remember it better and so do most of my friends.
I also find it very interesting to hear about people cherished childhood memories and shit but that's just me.
I had a digimon game in like 97 probably
and you'd train your digimon and it'd shit all the time
really big shits
hated digimon but had a digimon game I guess

Does All Star by Smash Mouth remind anyone else of the 90's?
although, it was not released in the 90's, for some reason it really makes me think of that generation hardcore
Anyone else played Zoombinis?

Probably the only videogame I ever played at school. Liked it so much I ended up asking for it for my birthday the same year!
That guy could make anything out of Squeezy bottles and PVA glue.
Why do consumerist things like that make up people's nostalgia as opposed to actual experiences or remembered qualities.
Because my parents abused me and I had no friends so i don't really have any good real experiences to be nostalgic over.
oh god carpet cities, yes
I remember finally getting over Ren + Stimpy some time ago, then a few years back an old boyfriend reminded me of its existence and I got addicted again fff
Oh, and beyblades. Me and about 5 or 6 other kids brought them almost every day to school and had battles in this thing near the library. It was like an old sink thing but had a relatively flat base and was at least 3 square metres big so it was pretty damn good for beyblades (Fuck knows why they made a sink that big letalone out in the open and didnt even use it anymore)

Admit it, when you saw this movie as a kid, you ran with your hands straight because you thought it made you run faster.
I still do.
Ah... Renting videogames. Good old days!
