The guy with the list videos?
as a big fan of smash i found this to be an interesting video, and it doesn't really seem even remotely over the top or off point or anything, seems perfectly reasonable. i think though that it's not really right to call it a "lore", because the "story" is so separate from the gameplay that they're practically not even connected. as such instead of calling it lore i think that an interpretive lens, or perhaps a critical analysis is more appropriate. it's basically just getting to the point that people have an effect on games and there's a relationship between the creator and the created. i think it's cool
Headcanon is literally the dumbest shit ever. How people think it's not, I'll never know.
Because it's fun. There gets a degree where headcanons are harmless fun, and then there's where you're grasping and straws and whwne you flaunt a headcanon about, you look like a fool.
Headcanons acknowledge that they aren't real, and are always put out as a "wouldn't it be cool if..."
...but I do want to point out that the story of the Subspace Emissary (in Brawl) is considered Smash canon and carries over to Smash 4..
How so?

I'm actually going to watch this video and have some shape complaints. Two minutes in, and it's just really awkward and forced jokes. His presentation so far of "there's actually a lore..." is what annoys me. It presents it as fact, as if Sakurai sat down and said "here's what I want in subtext," and that this guy discovered it.

He's analyzing the props in the bedroom in the Smash 64 intro. Overanalysis, eugh.
He goes onto talk as if the trophey gallery in Smash melee is another room that belongs to the kid who sleeps in that bedroom from Smash 64. And more forced, strung out jokes.
He goes onto say that Tabuu is a metaphor for society, saying that adults playing with toys is taboo. He's saying that each game going on is the "kid" from Smash 64's bedroom growing up. The plot of Subspace Emmisary, where the Master Hand that once wanted to create, now wants to put all the "toys" (fighters) back to boring trophies, but is just being manipulated by "society" (Tabuu).
Now, Master Core from Smash 4 is the same core in the Battlefield (Melee) stage.
Now, he reveals that the "kid" is Sakurai... Somehow. Master Hand is "obviously" Sakurai. Crazy Hand is representative of Sakurai being frustrated with the constant demand for constant sequels. Brawl is "obviously" symbolic of the pressure to grow up and mature in society. Master Core breaking out of Master Hand is symbolic of Sakurai wanting to break free of being so commited to the series, which "shouldn't seem like a stretch." The Master Core fight is a final ferocious fight, ultimately giving up and accepting fate during the final phase of the fight.
If it's not his stretched arguments that come up with completely made up concepts, it's his delivery that makes him unlikable. He presents these things as fact, saying they're obvious and shouldn't seem to be a stretch at all.
He comes up with baseless metaphors that you can't disprove, because there's no base to argue against. There's nothing established that he aludes to, rather just things that he assumes, connects together, and says they are so. Is it a constant child growing up, since the days of Smash 64? Nothing ever hints to that, but it's so. Is the Subspace Emmessary a commentary on maturing in society, having to give up the whimsy and fun of childhood, instead of a plot that toys with the concepts of the collectable trophies? Nothing aludes to that, but it's apparently so. Etc, etc.
you are grasping at reasons to hate this
I don't see anywhere that would constitute "hate"; he's just presenting his critique.
And I agree with him. The video isn't based on any actual facts. It's just a fan interpretation based entirely on the presenter's own story that he filled into the gaps between unrelated things.
There's nothing wrong with that on its own. It's only annoying because it's presented as fact. I personally find that obnoxious because I know several friends that think Game Theory presents actual fact and they think they're so cool when they tell me that they know that the Smash Bros. series is actually a metaphor for Masahito Samurai's real life!!!

The bonus dialogues with Pit (where Palutena and company talk to him in a "cutscene") mention Subspace. In the Punch Out boxing ring, ROB will be referred to as "the last of his kind", a reference to how all ROB units except one were destroyed during the events of Subspace. There's a few other references here and there, though obviously not many since Smash 4 doesn't have a story mode.
Ah, Game Theory. "If we can't find a stretch, we'll make one."
I'd have more respect for this clickbait tier channel if they didn't present everything as facts.

I'd only chalk those up as references, rather than any canon. Smash Bros. always refers to games that came out before, but that would almost be like saying that Brawl and Smash 4 take place before the end of Twilight Princess, because Ganondorf is still alive, and Link and Zelda are about.
here's my GAME theory
it's all cheeky and false but semi-believable, which is why he's so over the top in how he says shit (UH GAAAAAAAME THEORY) he knows it's not true, but he's doing it to parody people who are actually like this
His voice always fucking annoyed me
I can't stand it

Where does he say that this is all satire/a parody?
Anyone remember when he went full on SJW and tried to prove how all video games are secretly homophobic?
Where does he say that this is all satire/a parody?
well i mean it's just a GAAAAAMEEE THEORY
okay ill stop
I feel as if this video did have a lot of legitimate potential to it but it was squandered by "Le epik meme xd"

The amount of people who present headcanon as fact outweighs the people who do it "just for fun".

That's not the same thing at all, it happened in a previous game vs a separate series :v:
Regardless, I see what you're saying, but what else do you need for it to be canon? SSB4 has no story mode, so what else would it do with a canon except just reference it :v:
My favorite part of any of his videos is the ending where he says "After all it's only a theory...... a GAAAME theory..."
This was pretty reasonable. Not as crazy as his other videos.
