Why do you guys after every 10 pages start arguing which program is best? :v:
Because everyone uses something else and no one wants to use not the best one :D
Alright, to stop the arguing, I'll agree. I agree that 3DS Max and/or Maya has more features than Blender.
However, I believe skills should come before any modifiers. If you can't make anything decent, why have all of these useless modifiers?
Because everyone uses something else and no one wants acknowledge that everyone should be allowed to use what they want.
As long as it ain't some piece of shit program like Anima8or

It would be a shame if blender would be better and be free. Really, a program that costs thousands of dollars must be good.
Blender is free.
Right, so because it has this "industry-grade reputation", it must be the best program to use!
Actually, I've tried Maya and I've been able to model stuff just fine. Blender doesn't have NURBS, so I've never even tried using them. Blender has fur, hair, particles, fluid, and any other kind of physics built-in, so that argument is invalid. And yeah, so the shaders are different, but I don't expect Maya to use Blender's renderer. All of the same stuff is still there, it's just presented differently. It's not like I have to learn everything over again just to render something.
Blender has modifiers--have you ever even used it? Perhaps I don't want 'extensive' UI--I love using hotkeys in Blender, UI would just slow me down. Blender has cloth simulation, hair, and fur as well. Why does it take the cake? It has everything Maya and Max has.
Don't get me wrong, I love Blender, but at the end of the day you're more likely to get hired as a professional modeller/animator if you're using an industry grade program. There's a reason the program is industry grade; usability, documentation, etc.

Please, do tell me what is wrong so I can try to avoid doing it next time such an opportunity strikes.
(This is in no way meant to be offensive, I do want to know what is wrong)

It's not as much as an opinion if you're using it in a directing sentence.
Example:
Anim8or is a peice of shit!
or
Anim8or isn't a good program in my opinion.
I program will just stay shitty if the user base is dwindled by people dissing it.

Shit about anim8or. Seriously, don't.
Ah, I admit that was a stupid move :eng99:
Anim8or sucks.
I am very new to modeling so don't flip shit.
This is also a WIP

Not really sure on how to do the little dot things on the side. And I am horrible at textures/material.

Ah, thought I'd seen someone else linking from it. Thanks for pointing it out.

Still heavily WIP. Any ideas on what I could do to make the man's pose seem less stiff?
Can anyone help me with the thing I posted a page ago?
Also, I'm trying to design a futuristic building that has a dome structure, but is made out of things that look like they are folded over each other like leaves. A kind of concrete leaf hut.
I can't figure out how to draw it, but it looks good in my head. Imagine maybe up to 10 "leaf" like structures coming out out of the ground and their points end up overlapping each other at the top to form a dome. I don't want the structure too look exactly like it's made out of giant concrete leaves, but to imply that sort of artistic organic structure. Imagine the kind of shapes that make up the roof of the Sydney Opera House coming together and overlapping to form a hut like dome.
No idea if that makes sense to anyone but me. I hope so. I'm stuck.
Also I'm limited to under 200 polygons and preferably under 100. (This is for a game I'm doing for a group on another site)
No, I can't understand what you want
No, I can't understand what you want
Dammit. I'll try again.
Think of maybe 10 or so giant leaves. They're layered over each other to form a dome. The base of the leaf is the part that touches the ground, and the tip is the part that winds up overlapping other leaves. (wow it's a lot easier to describe stuff when you're not tired off your ass)
Take that, and make it out of concrete. You know how the Sydney Opera House kinda looks like it has sails coming out of it? I want the building to imply what I described above. A sort of leaf hut.
The problem is, I don't know how I would be able to do that with under 200 polygons. Any ideas? The main problem is layering them. I guess I'll try again.
Make it high poly for visuals, and then remake with low.

That was one of my first renders with Caustics :D

Well I feel like a tard for not thinking of that already.

Try adding a joint to his arm? Dunno.
I would also suggest to make skin look more natural. This color doesn't fit. But that's just me.

give it a small bend on the elbow
I messed up my max for sure. I had crytools installed, I removed some files and now I have missing menus and whatnot, tried to reinstall, but somewhere deep some files are still hiding and I can't find them. Is there a tut on how to 100% remove max? After reinstall it also doesn't ask for key, that means some files are still somewhere.
You could try looking somewhere in the registry.
