What program works on vista? Link?
What? :raise:
Pretty much everything i guess.
Just made this in Max 2009 and GIMP. I've never tried making terrain before so I thought I'd give it a shot. There are plenty of problems with it (canyon ends, ugly lens effects), but I'm still experimenting with lighting and rendering. Any tips would be helpful.

Nope , it comes up that it dosent.
yo dawgs,
is there a way to normalize the uvs in 3ds max 7, so everything ends up at the same scale when you planar map shit in the uv-wrapper?
I saw a video-tut where a guy did it but he used 3ds max 9.

Is there a trial for Zbrush? I'd love to get it.
Is it any good for modelling things other than characters? Would it be any good for trees and whatnot?

Yeah there is a 30 day trial, and absolutely you can use it for trees or any kind.
Pack Uv's?
Nope.
Google brought up no results, so I guess it's not available in 3ds Max 7.
[editline]10:36PM[/editline]
I tried Zbrush once, but I found the interface extremely confusing, and my obj. model got terribly deformed when I imported it. Never touched it again. I should probably read/watch some tutorials first, but I can't be arsed to learn sculpting right now. And if I ever want to learn sculpting, I'll use Autodesk's Mudbox, considering the interface should be quite familiar for me then.
And that's one sexy dragon sculpt by the way.

I know zbrush's UI is hard to get over, i hated it too.
Mudbox is really fast to learn but it lacks a lot of features zbrush has, But i still like painting textures more with mudbox.
But anyway i've been using Zbrush for 3 days so don't believe me, i suggest you try them both.
Hey guys, I'm pretty new to modelling, been doing it off and on for just a few months. I am using 3dsMax9 and I decided to model my fathers guitar.
http://filesmelt.com/Imagehosting/pics/3fe6e762a621bced5e2174e60f4998c5.jpg
Only problem was the neck, I found it hard to get the shape. So I decided to model it in 3 parts, the top (where the strings end), a middle section and then the long neck section. I have the shape I want, but I need to smooth them out because they look a tad jaggy. I apply meshsmooth and this happens:
http://filesmelt.com/Imagehosting/pics/435a316e17ae345c0c3ede296d33f22d.jpg
I want it to be one continous shape that is smoothed, any ideas? i modelling it by making a block, then making segments, coverting to editable poly and moving the points into the shape I wanted but I hand to do it in 3 parts and this problem has arisen. Any help I would most appreciate.
To make a plane just convert to editable poly. Or use the extrude modifier while it's a spline to make a perfect little extruded ma-bob.
When I do either of these the splines disappears... Arg... Why am I having so much trouble with something that should be so simple...
I'm going to seriously consider learning 3DS Max. Anyone got any really good recommended beginner tutorials for it?
If it comes to it, I may buy a book for it.
I had to repair mine but it didn't work.
So i did it again and it stops at Starting 3ds max!

Well, those are pretty useful, but I'm not looking for videos, as I can't download anything bigger than 10MB on dial-up.
That looks lush nVidia, sorta like a jade dragon now :D
More like phosphor
That looks lush nVidia, sorta like a jade dragon now :D
I was kind of thinking about jade when i made that.
I've improved it a lot, I'll post pics later...

I think it looks better with the smooth face instead of the bumpy thing you have going on at the moment.
Argh, the modeling in 3DS Max is so fucking weird, but I'll continue learning it.
Any more tutorials? I've found that I'm especially lousy at following video tutorials, as I need to memorize actions in the video, and then go to the program and perform them, while with text, I can retain info much easier, and I don't have to rewind the video if I've missed something.
If anyone has any tutorials that helped them start out, I'd be grateful. I don't need stuff that explains 3D in general, as I know most of the terms dealing with 3D and computers, (I haven't met a challenge dealing with terms/functions in 3DS Max yet), and the UI isn't too much of an issue, but hotkeys will take some time to get used to, (Not used to a split viewport).
How do I make the UI color scheme brighter in general? It seems a bit dark, and some colors conflict with widgets and such.
Again, any simple tutorials that explain every or nearly every aspect in detail. I'm not yet to the point where I can find every button with a few clicks.
Hey, i got my fumefx working, but it STILL crashes after few frames of simulation, it also seems like it can't go above 30mb's of memory usage which is ridiculous because i have 4Gb that should be plenty.
Check this out, i kind of thought it deserves it's own thread.
