I love threads like these. I'm gonna get into Modelling now. I've been inspired by all of these awesome models.
Hey Edja, I never talked to you, but I sure do see your posts :) Can you please stop acting like a moderator, it's rather annoying too look at you yelling at other people for simple questions or mistakes. Thank you :) Also, sweet nVidia, anything in particular happening there?
Repost this without the smiley faces.
Whats a free modeling program good to start with? Blender is nice and I know the EXTREME basics of it, XSI modeling tools is good because they have all the tools needed to make Source Mods which is what I mainly plan on doing, I know of Milkshape 3D also but whats the best?
Repost this without the smiley faces.
I don't want to seem like a complete and utter douchebag :(
I am not acting as mod, I just advice to people not to do silly things. If you don't like me, put me in ignore list or something.
Can you "advice" nicer then? Like, "Hey man, it's just a rating, don't worry about it".
Can you "advice" nicer then? Like, "Hey man, it's just a rating, don't worry about it".
No I can't. You got a problem with that? You obviously got one if you ask me to change my writings. No I won't do it.

(rhetorical, don't answer) And 1 "No I can't." is just fine, you don't have to answer twice :) Anywho, how did you all learn to model? Did you actually go through alot of tutorials, or did you just experiment? I'm going through tutorials and experimenting :)
Anywho, how did you all learn to model? Did you actually go through alot of tutorials, or did you just experiment? I'm going through tutorials and experimenting :)
You can't learn anything without tutorials or documentation :)
I want to start modeling badly, but whenever I get in about a month, I see an amazing model and someone saying "I did this in 1 hour, this was my second model ever!" Then I take a look at my shitty mess and go, "Well to hell with it, this isn't my thing."
I used a shitty program and made shitty models for like a year before I moved into 3dsMax and what do you know, my first 3dsMax models were decent. So it's not always an easy start but it asks for patience and determination to become good. Both of which I lack, frankly. :v: [editline]11:40PM[/editline]
Whats a free modeling program good to start with? It just seems more logical and easy to model in once you get used to the interface and have a list of all the hotkeys at hand. I don't really see a point of buying Milkshape. It's $40 or so and you don't get anything you would get with the other two you mentioned, actually a lot less. [editline]11:41PM[/editline]
You can't learn anything without tutorials or documentation :)
You can, trial and error. But it's not really recommended, tutorials are the fastest way to get hang of tools. After that, it's all just using the things you've learned to make things you really want to do.

Worked on all the remaining chess peices except for the knight which I give up for now... It wouldn't mirror the spline right.
Try the horse thingy, that'd be more challenging I suppose.
Try the horse thingy, that'd be more challenging I suppose.
That's what I said I tried... I tried mirroring my spline on the z axis but it messed it up. Also I don't know why but my light switch that I made is in some kind of grayscale mode or something. It won't change the color of anything even if I assign a new material to it...
at a rate of ~6 Megs per second.
I am anger.
Update: -Added a couple of buildings in the background, more buildings may be needed -Added depth of field, not that much though -Improved some of the textures -Added some more objects -Re-designed the handgun a bit Please give me some suggestions on what to remove, edit and/or add. :)
Table is boring.
It's an amazing scene, really... And I'm ok with the table it's just lacking something still. Love the random starbucks coffee. :banjo:
Table is boring.
Yeah, might improve that one, although, I wanted a cheap, torn, old, crappy look. Didn't think that much else would fit on a rooftop. But I might make the table in metal, which might be a good blend of both cheap/old and interesting.
Add a couple of cups that's target practice, or cans

Also, the rusted broken rail, why is it so rusty and dirty compared to the rest of the scene, along with behing so cleanly cut and not deformed in any way. The table could also do with being a little... something, it wouldnt really be 2 different colours when its made out of wood like that, it just doesnt seem natural to me, again, thats just me. Could also probably do with a notch/groove down the side to match up with the one on top. maybe, thats your call. I do like the gun thought.

Nice work, nVidia.
Absolutely amazing. Jesus Christ that makes me rage.
I'm using it as a wallpaper now. It's amazing... How long have you been doing this? :buddy:
I'm using it as a wallpaper now. It's amazing... How long have you been doing this? :buddy:
I've been using max about 2 years.
Took me 4 hours, no shit took me 4 hours.
Took me 4 hours, no shit took me 4 hours.
I tried it as my wallpaper. Unfortunately it didn't work out. :(
I don't mean to sound rude... Mind I started this 3 days ago. But um... :buddy: Why exactly did this take you 4 hours to make? All it looks like is a plane with a stony checkerboard material on it, a semi-transparent prism on top and a metal sphere cut in half on top of that... With a background pic of stars. Just saying  Edit: Actually... is that a bump map on the checkerboard cause it seems un-flat.

Exactly! I had to download all the textures, look at tutorials on how to put them on the models, do the background, find out how to make it reflective, render it with the Occlusion and shit, this is hard! I must have rendered it like 100 times, for THAT SHIT!
