Ok well Lasers look retarded, so I started on this, though I'm not sure what its going to be.
Looks like you went overboard with the bevel, i used to do that. I suggest you try plane modeling.

How to create a perfect cylinder using planes?
How to create a perfect cylinder using planes?
Use a cylinder. No more than 6-8 sides, though, unless you just insist on it being high-poly.
I'm starting to understand the interface of Blender, so any tutorials in that area would help.

Cylinder tool
That's not plane modeling anymore, that's shape modeling.
You plane model the majority of the gun. Unless your saying that if you want to plane model you can't use that luxury of the tool or it is considered shape modeling. But damn, it doesn't matter what you do as long as the model turns out nice.
For what program...?

Still flat.
What do you mean still flat? Are you confusing me with someone else?
What do you mean still flat? Are you confusing me with someone else?
It is flat.
How to create a perfect cylinder using planes?
You don't model everything using plane extruding, obviously...
And by putting a primitive cylinder behind the plane that you are extruding and followings its wireframe for example, if you really want to know.
Some progress on the Wipeout racer I have been doing.
Looks like you're doing what all beginners do, make flat silhouettes of stuff. It's not how models are made. Right now you're thinking in 2d when you should be extruding stuff to make it have detail even horizontally that isn't just another flat shape sticked to its side.
I'd recommend checking out some tutorials. It doesn't really matter what they model in it as long as they get you familiar with the tools. You can't create something out of your mind if you don't know the possible tools to do it with.

This is the best description I've heard that describes beginners. They think in flat planes.
Ok do either of you have any tutorials for Blender, or any modeling program that would show me how to make the models more 3 dimensional and less blocky?
Anyone point me in the direction of learning Inventor? I got a trial mailed to me a few weeks ago but opened up the app and was lost. I don't want to install it on my new comp without knowing how to do stuff.

If you are a student, register here,
students.autodesk.com
All the help you will need. And if you have used any type of CAD program (Pro-E, AutoCad, Microstation, MasterCam ect), you will have no problem picking it up fast. PLUS, the program has tutorials and even VIDEO tutorials right in the Help Book in the program :)
This is my first render, I did it for my 3D Graphics and Animation class.
We are forced to use Anim8or, the teacher thinks Blender is the worst program to ever exist. D:

Tell your teacher how fucking idiot he is.
I just finished making this. I was kinda bored so I made a 3d model of my watch. It has a simple rig, nothing special but I quite like how it turned out

Yes, I know the latch has alot of polygons and you'd probably expect alot less but it has a slight bend in it, and I wanted that to be very accurate.
This is a photo of the actual watch.

I bet he doesn't know how to use blender properly.
Anim8or in school, oh wow. How could that happen?
Anim8or in school, oh wow. How could that happen?
Yeah, sounds like a nightmare.
I sure hope you don't animate "Running" or "Dancing" characters with it.
Ambassador comes to mind, lol. He was anim8or "pro"
You think that's bad? IT Software Development hasn't ran at my school in 10 years because none of the teachers can work it out.
I remember I was doing a short bit of visual basic in one of the different IT Courses, All you mainly did was copy stuff out of a book and compile it. There are 2 IT Rooms, one had Visual Basic .NET 2005 and the other had Visual Basic 6 enterprise. Our class moved rooms specifically so we could use Visual Basic 6 rather than .NET 05
The best actual modelling class we have was a lunch time class with about 5 people doing Google SketchUp. The teacher had a book labelled "Google SketchUp for Dummies" and even that only lasted a couple months.

That's our semester assignment... D:
So I made this mesh:

But when I turbosmooth it, it all fucks up

How do I make it to smooth the edges, not to kill my whole mesh?

I would add the red lines.
Haha, I switched out my Gundam post with for this so it would be at the top of page 25 and more people would see it. Sorry for switching it up whoever gave me that Artistic.

Support-loops.
Well I'm kinda starting what I hope to be a very accurate and high polygon 3d reproduction of the RX-79[G] Ground type Gundam. It has appeared in a couple of the different shows, but Mobile Suit Gundam: 08th MS Team/Miller's Report is what inspired me to make it.

Material colors on the foot.
I haven't got a lot to show yet but I intend to work pretty steadily on this, showing some pretty good progress weekly at least.
Thumbnailed the images incase anyone quotes them.

Well, it would be easy for not a lot of sides, but my "real" mesh got more than 50 edges, connecting them by hand?

Tell me more please
