I suggest re-doing the smoothing groups. Make the box faces have group 1. Make the sides of the cylinder group 2, and the bottom of it nothing. Then try.
Well I'm kinda starting what I hope to be a very accurate and high polygon 3d reproduction of the RX-79[G] Ground type Gundam. It has appeared in a couple of the different shows, but Mobile Suit Gundam: 08th MS Team/Miller's Report is what inspired me to make it.

I haven't got a lot to show yet but I intend to work pretty steadily on this, showing some pretty good progress weekly at least.
and then masturbate all over it when you are finished
Well, it would be easy for not a lot of sides, but my "real" mesh got more than 50 edges, connecting them by hand?
Tell me more please
Try selecting all verticies and then open up the weld window now increase the weld radius a little, see if the numbers change.
How do I make something rotate when it moves along an axis ,like the cannon wheel in the first built in tutorial of 3dsMax.
I want the gear too rotate when I move the platform up.

If you don't need 50 edges, scrap it and start over. All you need to create a perfectly smooth circle is an 8 sided cylinder. If you do need them, get cutting, boy. You've got a lot of work.

With "Wire parameters" it's a fairly complex thing to explain here.
Cool, I got something too work thanks too you telling me it has something too do with wire parameters and me seeing wire parameters in the animations panel and using common sense from that onward, but now I have the problem that when I move the platform upwards the gear rotates clockwise from the view in the picture I posted, so the other way round, it looks funny but I like physical realism more XD. Do you have a link too a tutorial?
Makin' progress. ~1,400 triangles
Looking good so far.
OK, so I worked the problem with the rotation out now too, but now I have one last problem. The teeth of the gear intersect with the other teeth, and when I try to move the gear up or down so that it doesn't intersect, the gear rotates, making it intersect again :(.
LOL, never mind, I worked that out as well XD.

Not so slender man ;)
Sorry, my friend came over and fucked around on Zbrush and eventually created that.
I just thought it was too funny to not show you guys. :P
Hey guys, how do I put an image into one of the windows, so that i can model it?

Skilless brush dragging isn't funny, unless you're 12 or something. Even if you're 12 and can model, you won't find this funny.
It is like drawing a cock and showing it to real artists. I doubt they will laugh at your 5sec shit. So improve or don't post

Why do people think that kids of 12 years old are stupid, I'm 12 years old and modeling but I don't model like that.

Did you notice that I later mentioned that if you're 12 and model you won't laugh. Or did you?
Anyway. How do I hide selected polies in max? Otherwise I have no idea how to uvmap a part behind this, because there is a plane in front that will later have a fence texture with alpha and so I need to be able to see what's behind this plane.

Yes I've noticed that, but you started with the kids of 12 years old, really annoys me :(

Because most of them are dumb, you have to accept that and grow more :D If that annoys you, you still need to grow a bit and learn to ignore these stuff if you don't like them. For example, I am, how people call us, animefag. But really, I learned to ignore people who think that anime sucks, because nothing can change their mind and arguing is uselss. So just ignore me and it's all cool.
Now back on topic, how do I hide polygons?

Okay you won't be able to hide polygons just detach them and hide them and attach them later.
Okay you won't be able to hide polygons just detach them and hide them and attach them later.
Okay you are able to hide polygons just click the "hide selected polygons" button.

Anyway, how do I put a reference picture into a window?

Either use a plane or viewport background.
