You criticize peoples work way too much all through this thread when you're not a hot shit modeller yourself, even though most of the work posted is mainly WIPs. But sure, i'll leave it up to you to decide how long it takes me to model stuff because you are of course ever present in my house looking over my shoulder and timing everything I do precisely with a stopwatch.
Who pissed in your cereal? You said "I could make anything at all in under an hour. " And then when I ask if that's a hyperbole you say that it's not. Okay, Mr. Fast-as-shit-modeler. Whip me up a good o'l model within the timeframe. Make sure it's something challenging like a vehicle and high poly enough for a game today. And leave in the time that's on your start menu when you record it. [editline]09:53PM[/editline] Also, you don't need to be a cook to tell if something tastes like shit. Just because I can't draw well doesn't mean I can't say a drawing sucks, even if it's better than I can do. I, as a criticizer and viewer have the privilege of determining the quality of a work.
Some more work on that ICE 3 model:
Surely you're not planning on using that meshsmooth on the final model?
Some more work on that ICE 3 model:
I'd like to see how this one ends up.
So far
It says sony ricsson on the back and two buttons are missing from the keypad.
I see, you're that kind of people.
You are the idiot here.
Yes it is, that's my phone too, lol.
Also mine! Why are you dissing two buttons? I figure it would be easier to do them all at the same time? Anyone got a good starter tutorial for Blender then?
Surely you're not planning on using that meshsmooth on the final model?
Of course not, Source would crap its pants if it had any.
Okay, maybe some of you want to share some information? If you want, answer questions like, why did you start modeling, what were your impressions and so on. Before I started modeling, I was mapping in hammer. And since it could only make limited brushes, I moved onto 3d modeling. First time was almost a year ago, I tried a bit and threw it away, thinking it was too complicated for me. Then when summer came I started reading tutorials and learning it, and I liked it.
Your story is exactly like mine. Except my first try was over 2 years ago.
I registered a paying account at cg society yesterday, I should have registered a lot earlier. Since looking through the intense quality of work on show there, I have come to the realization that I want to take it to another level, make really really beautiful 3d models and renders. I feel the community and artwork being showcased there will continually inspire me to make high quality models. I'll start working on something nice and post it here through production of it.
Ah, nevermind, asshole leaves the building.
I don't even remember why I started, it was back in the elemantary school doing shapes with simple primitives and stuff. That was with Anim8or. Fortunately, I realised I was going nowhere with that software and moved into ancient TrueSpace 3.2 from '98. I only started using Max around 2004-2005.
Ah, nevermind, asshole leaves the building.
Are you leaving?
Are you leaving?
Well, yeah. It is not like I am needed here
I decided what I was going to make anyway in terms of portfolio work. Here's some modular road renders for now, I'll explain the idea behind it as it gets more developed and I start writing it out:
I started modeling because of this thread :3 (well the last one)
My interest in 3d modeling started after a friend of mine slowly began with it, he never went any far with it, but I continued. I downloaded a trial of 3ds Max but it was overwhelmingly complex at the time, so my father got me this program called Cosmic Blobs. It was a very simple and child-friendly program but it helped me a bit at least. Then I tried Milkshape3d, where I made completely flat planes and extruded them, it was horrible, but still progress. And then my father got me 3ds Max, which I fiddled with a bit and read some tutorials. And now I'm here.

I started modeling because of this thread mostly, but still no one answers my questions, but I try anyway :P
You are the idiot here.
He was talking to scope about how he was bragging. Sure edja isn't the nicest guy when it comes to modeling but he never said "I can make anything in under an hour". My whole point is that I'm saying scope can't do that.
I've been down this road with Edja before, but he could try and be nicer, but he refuses, he prefers to be a douche in his answers :/
I wasn't talking to edja. What are you talking about?
I registered a paying account at cg society yesterday, I should have registered a lot earlier. Okay. That's a lot of tiling, just pointing out. If you want to do a modular road, don't tile that much. It looks obvious already and in first person looking down a road all you would see is TILE TILE TILE. Not meaning to sound like a dick, just constructive criticism. Also scope you never responded to my post. If you really do think you have that good of a workflow then by god almighty I want to learn how to be the jesus of modeling. I learned polygon modeling but have been to busy to ever really give a big project a shot. As of now I'm working a lot on improving my skills so I can become a good modeler.
You actually bought them, FIRST FACEPUNCHER WHO BOUGHT THEM!
Nope. My dad downloaded them illegally from the internet, I don't really like the idea of warez, but I have to agree with my father here; paying $3000 for a program is pretty wack. (plz dont ban me bro)

Am I the only one that has Max legally :sigh: Also someone please give me C&C: Should I finish it? If yes I'll lower the poly count.

I paid for 3dsmax, Photoshop, Mudbox and I'm about to buy Zbrush. Anyway: I'm in the process of altering the ground textures to make them less obviously tiled.
Why does the poly count mater?
The main part is 518 polygons. I like low poly things because then I can put them in games.
im in the middle of rendering my death ball of death...its taking a fair while since im using volumetric light , GI , Caustics (10k of each kind) and a glowing texture..oh and it has 789,724 polys woop woop
Ugh, I've got no motivation to make anything. What's something fun to model. I'm thinking of a plane or something, but I'm not sure. [editline]06:36PM[/editline] Ugh, I've got no motivation to make anything. What's something fun to model. I'm thinking of a plane or something, but I'm not sure.
Here we go..my death ball of death.....or something like that....waht do you think?
