Okay so I've been working on getting my portfolio site together and here's what I've got so far.

Works at any resolution in any browser. I dunno why you'd want to view it at 800x600, but it works at that too.
Horizontal scrolling to view the work. I'm only going to put stuff I make from now in into it though.

Looks good, maybe make the image change into a rotating flash when you click it or something.

That would be cool, but the render time is like 10 minutes on my I7.

How is that related? I think he means to make website in flash so you don't need to sidescroll so much.
I think he meant that the model would spin around, showcasing it.
Personally, I don't really see a point of building a portfolio to show 2 or so models. On the index page there could be a brief (really brief) info about you and possibly even links to your highlighted works right there on the index page.
I'm just about to start university doing a large amount of 3d design, I was going to showcase my new models there as well as some of the websites I design and run.

For the new comers, this thread is for art made with 3D programs such as 3dsMax.

Really good looking container there, how did you do it?

How does that look for a first go at organic modelling?
hows this look for a 1st solo shot of a glass?
hows this look for a 1st solo shot of a glass?

Can't tell, there are only 2 colors in the pic. Use some hdri or something, because if there is nothing to reflect/refract, it's hard to tell
lol, terminology brain overload.

Consider using a HDRi and work on the material.
Does anyone else always have their HDRi always blurry or too dark? I follow a few tutorials and they all gave me the same result.

Too dark, pump up the brightness, blurry, yes, they always are.
I've decided to go and try out some 3ds Max modeling, I really want to be able to create such awesome models like scope and pling, but it's kinda difficult for me to understand what some of these things do, because I'm Dutch, I am pretty good at English, but some of these words are fiddling to me.
I'm looking through a load of tutorials now, but there's another problem with tutorial videos, and that is that I'm deaf, so it's kinda tough for me to hear what they're saying really :(
But none the less I'm looking for image tutorials and text tutorials, trying my hand on plane-based modeling.
I hope some of you guys are willing to help this gigantic noob with modeling whenever I have a question (wich isn't a googleit question :v:)
this is now the best of my abilitys.

My advice would be to learn to navigate the viewports and manipulate shapes from all the perspectives with the basic tools like extrude, chamfer and so on, which would be box modelling. I think you made a good choice, picking 3dsmax as your tool.
Definately post all the stuff you make so we can tell you how to improive.

No. Don't post all your stuff. Post only stuff that matters.
You don't see "real" artists spam their blogs with WIP updates all the time do you?

HDRI+caustics, PLEASE.
My first car :)

It's not really great, but it's my first real try at modeling, and I think it's pretty ok for a first time.

Nice. I like the amount of detail you managed to put into that, would be a bitch to UV-map.
http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=2mca9ls&s=3
I was practicing a tune shader on the hand and deagle.
I seriously spent like 2 hours on that, plus an extra 30 minutes of tweaking, I know it doesn't look like it'd take a long time but I had to start over all over again, if you see a shell comes out of the gun, muzzleflash, blood, ecetera.
It's too fast, you should have slowed the hand and the gun down. And the dead guy bends kind unnaturally before falling.

I had the same problem first time playing the video. Second time it was slower lol

Something random I put together because I was bored.
3ds max and Zbrush.
No mental ray in these.
Which one do you like more?
Bad backround and grass looks horrible and I am too lazy to fix them...
This was for fun anyway.

Really, really ugly. Overly shiny, overly bumpmapped(at least I think that's bump mapping, I can't even be sure), and too much contrast and it's too dark.

Well this scene was supposed to be really, really dark(first I tougt I would do it that you can only see legs and hands from darkness). I have one done in day time in desert and in mental ray, but after that comment I think its best not to post it.
Well there aint so mutch of bumb in the armor, its mostly just polygons. only bolts are in bumb(cant see them in this one).

You mean bump? Like bumpmap? Also, texturing is poor and like I said specular is WAY overdone as is the bumpmapping on the brick. I can barely make out details on his armour especially with that watermark.
Somebody request me something to model.
