The first pic looks nice as a kind of HAWX style city, but try not to blame skills on age.

Good modeling, but I don't like how the shapes don't come to a smaller point at the front. it just seems like they don't go anywhere, if that makes sense. Cars, planes, and just about any vehicle all have shapes that symbolize direction, for either aerodynamic or stylistic or both. It feels to me that they have nothing that gives a definite feeling of sleekness or complexity, they are really lacking in both.
Also, it's lacking a definition of size. I can't tell how big those ships are. They could fit a couple people or could be huge. I don't know. Windows, antennas, towers, and other things help show sizes.
Look at ships from Star Wars or EvE or something. They all have both of what I mentioned above. They have a good definition of a directional beginning and end to the craft, as well as a HUGE amount of work put into showing the scale of the vehicles in question.
Like I said, good models, but try to take the suggestions I made.
[editline]04:48PM[/editline]
Oh, and directional definition on sides is important. you did better for top and bottom directional definition, but the sides are really lacking.
I think directional definition is a term I just coined.
i think the side are supposed to be clear coz of the wopping great engines
Uhhh. Examples of what I meant by directional definition.

They both have definition of what direction they go in. Angular changes in relation to the front and back of the vehicle on the sides of the vehicle. I never said the sides should be full of shit that get in the way. Antenna's go on the top or bottom of a ship and are clear of weapons anyways, windows wouldn't get in the way, etc.
[editline]04:55PM[/editline]
Also, shapes that feature what I'm talking about look more menacing to the viewer.
The cartoon character is done. It's UV mapped. so I can't make any renders, because they don't show up and I don't know how to make them. :saddowns:
So here's a screenshot of it in blender itself.

It's Dad!
EDIT: Got his shoe color wrong. Dag, yo.
by the way, he has thumbs. but since there's no shading, you can't see them very well
It's pretty simple, just make a material with the same texture , then in Map input choose UV.

And to render just hit F12 lol
Second WIP of the Key Corvette:

It needs, as Nvidia said a star background, needs more details in that hangar, and a thrust effect(In the video).
The color of the sun is very, very good.
argh, all tutorials on how to model cars are horrible
they teach you how to shift+drag extrude a plane, and in the next step they say "after a while you should have something like this lol" *shows finished model*

I wonder if it is possible to render a movie or picture frames in a 3d tv model screen. Or will I need some video editing software to do so?
I wonder if it is possible to render a movie or picture frames in a 3d tv model screen. Or will I need some video editing software to do so?
Just render something as an .avi and then assign that .avi file as a bit map into your material as you normally would.
So I suck at texturing... alot.
I don't understand how you all make such good textures its fucking hard as shit. Creating an image from nothing. Anyways here is a WIP attempt what else should I add?

Protip: Nobody makes their own textures, they just take them from DevArt or Google.
So I suck at texturing... alot.
That's not how you do it, most of the time.
You take a photo and then edit it. Unless you want to draw the texture yourself.
Its hard with pictures because of the shading.
Its hard with pictures because of the shading.
That's why you edit them, and/or shoot them in a place with "idle" lighting.
Protip: Nobody makes their own textures, they just take them from DevArt or Google.
Protip: Don't use google. (in rare cases you have to)
But for everything else: :siren: www.cgtextures.com :siren:
Even valve uses that shit!
