The car's texture looks lumpy, but I'm sure that's not a real issue. I'm a novice modeler.
The lumpy look is probably just because I suck at making good materials and can't get good render settings.
I've got a tip for you with modeling, if you have trouble, just keep trying. It probably sounds stupid, but it does work. I know when I started around December last year, it was daunting to learn all the tools, the interface and how things work. I spent a heap of time just messing around with some tools to learn what they did, I also looked at heaps of tutorials to get the hang of the basics. I was probably using 3DS Max for around two months before I got anything 'decent' with it, and even then it still looked awful. I thought I'd never make anything good with it.
Maybe I'm just a slow learner, but after many months of practice and making some basic household objects, some guns, a few cars and a plane, I feel like I'm getting the hang of it, but I can still learn a lot more.
Render it with mental ray, and use mental rays car paint material.
I made a Lamborghini Gallardo. Been working on it for the last few days. I suck at rendering though.

Is the backlight supposed to look blocky?
Okay, incoming REALLY noobish question:
How do I set the default texture to a cream color? The random colors are starting to get a little annoying.

Just apply a material to your model and that's it.
Just apply a material to your model and that's it.
But is there any way to set the default to a cream color?
There is no default colour in Max, it's randomly picked from the basic mesh colours.

*Ahem*

I'm thinking about switching from Blender to Max.
Is there a large learning curve to Max or is more or less the same as Blender?
I'm sure there are way more possibilities with Max too, right?

I'm getting used to it just fine, I also started with Blender and I'm now moving to Max, I guess Max does have a lot more tools out of the box for you to use and learning all of them in a few days is probably close to impossible but it's not that hard if you managed to learn Blender without problems.
First render ever... I'm so proud... :v:

^Miscellaneous calculations for some of the angles.
I know two of the pneumatic cylinders are clipping.
A few planes show up as black in Max and invisible in the render; you can see them if you look hard enough; I need to fix them.
This is only part of a leg, and by no means finished.
You need to fix few smoothing groups as well.

I have absolutely no idea what that means. :v:

First time ever doing anything with mental ray... I think it turned out really good too.

I see you're on w7 now? So, is it compatible with max and plugins nicely?

I've been using it for months, yes it everything works.

Can you authorize TurboSquid plug-ins as well? Because I couldn't, due to some security protocol in IE8. So I moved down to XP again.

You could also try using Mental Ray materials on other parts of the car as well. Like mirror, rubber, glass, chrome, leather, etc.
Did this in college today.. my class started to learn a little 3d for a taster before we completely start into next year so it's meh.

At least it was fun to make. :v:

I mean plug-ins like Dreamscape, FumeFX and AfterBurn. An issue with local host and IE8 prevented me from authorize them.

Well it looks like a nice leg thingy.

Is that trying to be some sort of implication to warez?

Yeah, I want the fix. Unless it's warez.
