Ok now. Then how do I create normal maps for games? These colorful ones?
There's the Nvidia plugin for Photoshop that can create normal maps from diffuse maps (EDIT: Ninja'd. Damn facepunch not showing the last page), or you can go the high-to-low poly baking route.
I think the render looks pretty damn cool. [editline]10:33PM[/editline] However simple.
I don't get why this is dumb. I like the look of it. Sure, it's something anyone could do in a couple minutes but it has a nice, simple look. And someone dear god help me with Max not working.
I reccomend Running brain.exe ... Joking . I don't know. What are your specs ?

If you think it's a matter of not being able to run it, read the thread. I can run 2009 perfectly. It's what I'm using to model with currently. And of course I can run the thing. i7 6GB ram Gtx275 Windows Vista Home Premium x64 I've tried everything I know, and all it's doing is crashing on startup. Changing graphics mode doesn't help because it crashes on that too. All up to date drivers unless I'm mistaken, SP 1 for 2010 is installed. I've uninstalled and reinstalled twice now. I sent an error report in to Autodesk but of course the place I work for had to lock down my email because I haven't bothered to change my password.
My first somewhat decent torso. :()

What's the difference between normal and bump map? Other than one being grayscale and another in more colors.
What's the difference between normal and bump map? Other than one being grayscale and another in more colors.
Normal maps are better.
[hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hkk8XgGPQw&feature=channel_page[/hd] I made a tutorial a while back. Thought I'd post it here.
Normal maps are better.
Use both. [editline]10:22PM[/editline]
[hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hkk8XgGPQw&feature=channel_page[/hd] I made a tutorial a while back. Thought I'd post it here.
Convert to editable poly not mesh.
Use both. [editline]10:22PM[/editline] Convert to editable poly not mesh.
I always do editable poly, must've fucked up somewhere in my tutorial.
I always do editable poly, must've fucked up somewhere in my tutorial.
It's all good. Good tutorial, by the way. I've never bothered with cloth like that.
It's all good. Good tutorial, by the way. I've never bothered with cloth like that.
You can get really awesome looking cloths with that.
What's the difference between normal and bump map? Other than one being grayscale and another in more colors.
Normal maps simulate depth from X, Y and Z axises (hence the three-colour map) whereas with bumpmap you only get Z or something. [editline]07:53AM[/editline]
You can get really awesome looking cloths with that.
You also get very unoptimized and resource wasteful cloths with that. Basic polygon modeling will be better for game characters.
You can get really awesome looking cloths with that.
Yeah. Also guys check my account out I have about 4 tutorials up, they're for random shit.

I don't count highpoly models as game models.
I don't count highpoly models as game models.
For game characters you can bake normals out of the highpoly cloth.
This is new info thanks
Added some AO. Looks better in my opinion.
Looks good. I like it.
Hey all, i'm a new kid at modeling. For school i'm in a 3D modeling class that uses Rhino3D, but it's limited and I think I could do better in a different program. Anyone have any suggestions as to what program is a good start if I have a very limited basic knowledge of modeling?
Blender.
Or you could look up the Maya PLE. Just google that.
Here is a test on some buildings Probably going to model a bunch more
A 30-45min sculpt from a cube out of boredom.
Hm too bad my demo ran out.
Demo of Blender? It's free... And I would rather use proper sculpting programs than the internal one of Blender but your call.
