Worked around my Z-Depth issue by using an alpha map instead.

Get a better app.
Get a better app.
No. It's actually very good, but not much of a fluid simulator.

I've used it. I used it at the age of 8, literally. Get a better app. It's so limited in features that it's useless.
nVidia next time you do one of those Speed Modeling things, could you record it please? I would love to watch a time lapse of your work.
The amount of table renders gave me an idea, how about we try a render competition or even a new forum called '3d Competitions'. I think it'd be good fun and practice.

Oh yeah, I've been thinking about that.
I need some help guys.
I'm making a Porsche 911 in 3DS Max 2009. I've made a really basic shell so far, but I'm having lots of trouble adding any kind of detail.

There's the shell.

I get sections that look very bad when I try to add in things such as the front intakes and the number plate section. That picture is of a rough cut I did for the number plate.
What I'm doing is using the cut tool to make the shape, then extruding the polygons, then using meshsmooth.
Any help is appreciated

I wonder what could have been done with max in 50 minutes. :3:
I have recently made the nVidia logo in 3ds max, then I decided to render it with Vray, which make a nice render :

Any ideas ?
Also, i'm planning to make ATi logo and then put it in the right side of the nVidia. Like a fight, I dunno how to say.
I like, because it's nvidia. :3:
I love it, I love nvidia, I hate ati. BEGIN THE FIGHT!
Animate nvidia and ati to swordfight. DO IT DO IT DO IT.
Gentlemen, I present to you, my very first Blender render!

What the hell is that. Apply at least some smoothing, or something.
I opened Blender for the first time 20 minutes ago. Be gentle.
BTW it's an asteroid

What I hate is when people say "I am new, don't be harsh" I will have same attitude to you be you new or a veteran at your job. It doesn't matter.

Well, I didn't really post this to get criticism...I just wanted you to know I've gotten into moddeling.
Anyway, how do I apply smoothing?

Should be shiny. They always are.
Also, Ambassador, your stick figures aren't animated, they are just floating. I strongly suggest moving off the anim8or, it was the first program I used and I can tell you it's horrible for just about anything.
Try Blender, XSI Mod Tool, Maya PLE or even Wings3D. They are all free and a lot better than Anim8or. You will be able to make more complex models more easily.
I'd recommend Maya PLE especially if you're thinking of getting into animation. 3DBuzz.com has great beginner tutorials to get hang of the Maya interface, I got hang of it in just hours when I started.

There used to be low-poly modeling comps (and one highpoly one that sort of killed the whole thing :v:) at Models/Skins.
I'd love to take part in that kind of competitions but I'm not sure if I have the time with all my projects going on.

I think we should have a subforum for 3d work and post competitions and such there. We have the userbase for it.
We did have a custom forum for the last highpoly competition. It's the reason it died, nobody knew it existed. :v:
Although that was in the time where there were hundreds of useless custom forums.

I'll post a thread trying to start up a competition if that's cool with you.
Also nVidia that looks awesome. :neckbeard:
nVidia, I think the logo is too dark.
This thread makes me sad, it shows that I'm a newbe in 3D :(

Yeah, but I couldn't figure out how to add reflections to Vray Materials.. :/
How do I turn on production frame? In other render programs it is possible to turn them on and a frame shows what will be rendered according to res, aspect ratio and so on, but in max I can't find how to.
