Thanks for getting the SA's Griefing thead closed, you aspie.
Holy shit hats_ ur the boss.
Where'd those greg salisbury major nelson vids go?
/r/girlgamers
I don't fucking get why your sex has to be a major part of your hobby. Nobody gives a shit about your gender unless you draw attention to it.
Works the same way for dudes sometimes too. I've known some male knitters and they constantly drew attention to the fact that they knitted, e.g. "Guys... should I knit a jersey, hahaha, look at me!".
It was infuriating.

Have you seen the attitude a lot of gaming communities have towards women? It's the same thing as with that gay gamer convention - it's less about drawing attention to yourselves and more about having a place to be yourself and not condescended to/harassed by certain subsections of the community at large. Why do you find it so offensive that female gamers have their own subreddit? How does it affect you? Do you ever see it unless you're actively looking for it?

griefing is harassment.
griefing is harassment.
harass
ˈharəs, həˈras
verb
1.
subject to aggressive pressure or intimidation.
griefing is more annoying people and exploiting the game - it's the multiplayer equivalent of pranks, harmless because all it's doing is disrupting the game in the context of the game
harassment is what the guys in these videos are doing - following these people from server to server, insulting them, getting their personal details and phoning them to throw insults at them, getting into their personal accounts to screw shit up, then BLAMING THEM for not just giving in. it's harassment and honestly uncomfortable to watch, but of course it's ok because people are choosing to donate money to these people which is a deplorable act apparently? I mean I wouldn't watch these people in a million years because it looks like the most deathly boring shit ever and I sure as fuck wouldn't donate but that's why I just don't fucking watch it. What's so offensive about it that you have to go on some holy crusade?

I feel like it's sometimes stated in a manner that gives some kind of "bonus" to the stream, and that's what pisses me off. It's not really a good way to excuse yourself from being a boring-as-shit streamer.

Yeah I do, I'm friends with a bunch of female gamers who are rad people, and talk about that stuff, and also the problems that come with being a girl gamer, without being obnoxious.
I mean the people who make the female aspect a prominent part of their character. I'm not saying that they should have to hide it, it's just your personality should be more than just gender+hobby.
Of course it doesn't affect me beyond being slightly annoyed by it, how does what I'm saying affect you?

there is basically no distinction between griefing and harassment. Griefing is harassment in a videogame.

That is very wise of you to parrot quotes from dictionaries as an appeal to authority. Tell me, how is subverting game mechanics to interfere with others' games not aggressive pressure? I've been griefing for six years and everything I have ever done can be construed as coercion.

It's not okay because it's illegal. I have submitted a 3949-A and I hope Hollyanne enjoys her tax audit.

how does having/posting in a subreddit called 'girlgamers' distill the people who post there's personalities down to 'gender+hobby' though? facepunch has threads for people from say sweden or california, does that make their defining 'internet character traits' where they live?
but of course it's ok because people are choosing to donate money to these people which is a deplorable act apparently?
It's a "deplorable act" because they act like playing video games while people watch you is a legitimate occupation.

there's a certain line that's crossed when you choose to phone people and personally insult them
Hot damn this thread just got interesting.
how does having/posting in a subreddit called 'girlgamers' distill the people who post there's personalities down to 'gender+hobby' though? facepunch has threads for people from say sweden or california, does that make their defining 'internet character traits' where they live?
I guess I quoted the wrong thing. On looking through that subreddit it's actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be.
And no, it doesn't. If a california gamer constantly said "Bro, lets go surfing, lel" I'd be annoyed at them too.
I guess if you make one single characteristic about yourself into your personality, it's annoying. People aren't just two things.
It's a "deplorable act" because they act like playing video games while people watch you is a legitimate occupation.
Why do they deserve harassment for it? Even if it wasn't a legitimate occupation (which tbh if you're making enough money to support yourself it kind of is) how is it affecting you to the point where you think they deserve to be harassed?
there's a certain line that's crossed when you choose to phone people and personally insult them
You're telling me that harassing people vocally in a video game is entirely different than harassing someone vocally on a phone? Blasphemy.
You're telling me that harassing people vocally in a video game is entirely different than harassing someone vocally on a phone? Blasphemy.
Isn't it?
there's a certain line that's crossed when you choose to phone people and personally insult them
verbal and written insults are part of griefing.
sure you might be crossing a line, but if this is happening while they're playing a game because people want to interfere, it's griefing.

surely the rational response to them not paying tax on their donations is to report them to the relevant authorities/fill out the form as you've said you've done and just leave it? as you've said they'll get audited, there's no real reason to harass them to get them to stop streaming so tax dollars don't get lost
Again, it is not a legitimate occupation. She does not report her income to the IRS but uses the donations as such.

Yes there is. It's my job.
I don't get how this is a thing. Why are people harassing her? Is it just boredom?
I don't get how this is a thing. Why are people harassing her? Is it just boredom?
There's seriously a post right above you that explains why.

I don't get why people don't read a thread before asking questions.
