I don't like it when people think they like a band based on one song. If you ask anyone in my school if they know Pantera, they'll say, "Oh yeah, those are the guys who sang 'Walk.'" They have more than one song, you know. Same thing happens with Queen. I can't talk about even simple songs like Fat Bottomed Girls or Bicycle Race because people only know Bohemian Rhapsody or Another One Bites the Dust.

Start showing them more music by said bands.
"meaningful" music
"meaningful" music
Care to elaborate?

Sorry but that's stupid, you can't just expect people to know all of a bands music.

It's stupid to say you like a band when you really only like one song.
Well, there's a guy at my school that only listens to:
Avenged Sevenfold
Slipknot
Linkin Park
Bring me the Horizon
Metallica
And claims to have a good music taste for what he listens to.

Ah forgot SOAD and Guns n Roses
How exactly do you know he ONLY listens to those?
Another pet peeve: Judging an ENTIRE person's music taste for the music they seem to be having higher numbers of.

I love that. :smug:

Even if they just listened to one album, that would be better than one song.
Yeah but I'm not saying if you like them, there are lots of bands I know of but because of only one song.
I don't go around saying that I'm a fan of them or anything though...

When I say, "I've heard of them" it generally means I've only heard one or two songs.
People that mix Pop Rock, Pop Punk, Alt Rock, and bands like MCR, ADTR, BMTH etc, pretty much anything with some form of screaming with Screamo/Emo. Actual Screamo/Emo music died out in the early 2000's, it's rare to find a REAL screamo/emo band.
Fagcore, Alt Rock, Deathcore, Metalcore, SIMPLE FUCKING PLAN(I've heard it before from people) ARE NOT FUCKING SCREAMO/EMO, INDIE, POST ROCK, SKA etc.
TL;DR Know your fucking genres and quit giving people that actually listen to em a bad name.
fagcore that's a new one

Why care about genres at all? "This sounds good. I'll listen." or "I don't like this. I won't listen."

Gives you a basis to look for music against.
If there were no genres, I wouldn't know what a band plays.
So if I'm looking for more melodeath, I type in melodeath bands and they pop up.
Well, I let my friend listen to some of my music and she asked me what the band was called.
I told her "Nine Inch Nails" and she said "Lol, that's like a hooker name".

Genres are a very important in music, but it gets so annoying when people get pissy because you don't know the exact genre of a certain song or band.
In a gig wherein people label genres to bands who played just a couple of songs. Acting as if they know it all.
Stereotypical dubstep that uses only the wobble bass and the triplets and the "Grimy" sound. YOu can have dubstep without the wobbles. The wobbles are fucking annoying.

makes sense
makes sense
I never thought of it that way, but yes it does.
I'm a singer IRL, so naturally untuned and/or Autotuned vocals piss me off like no other.

Yeah this one; people who think that dubstep starts and ends at the wobble
Dubstep can be good without the wobble, it needs to be done properly to sound good, sometimes it just sounds forced.
Why care about genres at all?
Different stories, different way of developement, different expressions. I look at that too you know. :smugdog:
it sounds so dumb when it's just kick, snare, repeat and just the wobbling bass in different speeds and tones, not even distortion or anything, just wewewew wowowowo wubwubwub
People who aren't open to new music and continues to consume the everyday mainstream bullshit we hear today
True. But I can't really hate a person for that, it's their choice.
The reason I'm not too fond of mainstream music is not because I want to be so ~cool and underground~, it's because they just play the song EVERYWHERE, ALL THE TIME, and the songs are really generic and mediocre for the most part.
And when I hear people listening to it not because it's just what's on the radio at the moment, but because they choose to, I almost feel bad for them in a way.
My missus thinks Kings of Leon are better than The Verve.
Should I have her lobotomised?
you should let her have her opinion
next please
