The thing is,not all prog bands "push" bounderies of genres, they merely use it and meddle with it in order to do something...
if you're not doing something new and not pushing boundaries you're not prog imo. Prog seems to have actually become a sound, instead of a term. There's so many bands just copying the likes of dream theater and getting labelled prog when they're doing absolutely nothing new, and I think that's just plain wrong.

Unless it's avant-garde... but that doesn't have to apply with prog. Good prog tends to flow well, not solely due to musical originality. And in all seriousness, I don't think many progressive bands have pushed "classical" or "jazz" to the full edge in their music, but the way they apply it can work great.
growling/grunting/distorted vocals = screamo hurr
metal being described as "emo" or "goth" auto-tuned bitches and of course pop music Entirely
You're so hxc.
metal being described as "emo" or "goth" auto-tuned bitches and of course pop music Entirely
I like some pop. Like pop rock.
I like some pop. Like pop rock.
I unashamedly like Lady Gaga.
My pet peeve is when singers click their tongues around in their mouth really loudly Roger Waters does this a lot, when he sings the word "sleep" it sounds like he's singing "skleep"
I unashamedly like Lady Gaga.
I don't like Lady Gaga, but I still have a few covers and remixes of her songs for some reason.
My pet peeve is when singers click their tongues around in their mouth really loudly Roger Waters does this a lot, when he sings the word "sleep" it sounds like he's singing "skleep"
I hate it when I notice singers pronouncing some words in a weird way, then I just end up focusing on them going PHFGPHPGFG when they say P or things like that. When I listen to Teach Me How To Scream by Brokencyde (hate me all you want), I can't help but notice that it sounds like "Teach me how to scree" because it gets cut off.
don't you fucking lie to me!
Power Metal, bro
Power Metal, bro
more dragons less elves
Power Metal, bro
One look at the album art and you could tell that it's a Power Metal band.
Heh.
I didn't even know FP had a friend feature :psyduck:.
Tracks that are written differently in different places. Like Mûh and Müh on Magma/Kobaïa by Magma, or Ezekiel: Ia Maitasun Kantu Bat and Ezekiel: Ia Maitasun Kanta Bat on Ezekiel by Itoiz. That last one means something in Basque and apparently both spellings are correct. Now I just pick the booklet or back of the album over the disc. Also, why did Fats Domino have to make an album called "This Is Fats Domino!" and then one called "This Is Fats" about a year later? It's incredibly confusing, from my long Internet search I think that in the book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die" they mixed the two and the album labelled "This Is Fats" is actually "This is Fats Domino!", since the track listing corresponds to the second one. Then the re-release of "This Is Fats Domino!" obviously has to be a copy/parody of "This Is Fats", which makes the whole thing even more confusing because it's more natural to expect the re-release to be for "This Is Fats". Blah blah blah blah blah.
"1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die"
I have that book. It was pretty good at first but then I saw a Limp Bizkit album and then everything suddenly started to lose meaning.
growling/grunting/distorted vocals = screamo hurr
My friend says that blessthefall is death metal. I'm serious.
I have that book. It was pretty good at first but then I saw a Limp Bizkit album and then everything suddenly started to lose meaning.
I believe this is more of a "most influential albums" list than a "best albums" one. I got Rolling Stone Magazine's "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" too. I wish there was a more international list, but meh. At least I got the French edition of "1001 Albums [...]" and the editor added some of his international and French favourites at the beginning of the book too. I do like "This Is Fats Domino!", but I've always thought it was called "This Is Fats" when in fact it was a completely different album. It's irritating, especially now that everybody on the Internet thinks that's how it's called too.
This post is just my opinion, only what I think. I'm going to get a lot of mixed opinions for this: I feel modern music is not as good as the past, nor is it getting any better. Today's music seems to abuse and overuse special effects such as auto tune, bass (like in techno and hip-hop) and other sounds. All I see is pretty much songs with singers who can't sing, so they use auto tune to make it so they can. I also believe the morals of these songs aren't exactly good. Call me a soccer mom, but I think most rappers rap about sex, drugs, violence, which is somewhat okay to rap about, just mostly everyone does it so it gets unoriginal and annoying. I don't exactly like the singers in modern music either. A poor and bias example is Rebecca Black, but you probably get the point of my view. In my eyes the music from now does not compare to the quality of the 60's-80's. The Beatles, David Bowie, Boston, Billy Joel, Red Hot Chili Peppers, ACDC, Led Zeppelin and more are arguably classics. Imagine you are at a party. A song plays from way back when, you probably hear people go "Oh I love this song!" or "Oh this song is familiar and good, but I can't exactly remember it." Do you think you will hear people in 20 to 30 years saying that about Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Kanye West and more? Maybe a bit. Maybe. But compared to these legends? Maybe not. I'm not saying all modern music isn't good. I love some of the bands that we have today. I just dislike a lot of the style music groups have today. My fear is the quality in most music will grow worse. If music from back then to now has decreased, what's to say that music from now to the future will decrease?

There's still a lot of good bands around.
;30269373']Do you think you will hear people in 20 to 30 years saying that about Kanye West?
is that a joke or are you seriously not informed about the influence kanye west has had on hip-hop [editline]5th June 2011[/editline] plus since when is bass a special effect?
plus since when is bass a special effect?
man those high-tech beatles with their hoity-toity "bass" what happened to back when music was good?
