You sure like to generalize a lot.
Sure a lot of pop songs sound alike and even though the formula sounds simple it's very hard to write a proper pop song. You need to have a proper chord structure, lyrics people can relate to, a catchy melody, dynamics, a solid hook and a high quality mix just to name a few things. This stuff isn't easy.
[editline]awd[/editline]
And most people I know want that the lesser known artists/bands they know get more popular because it would increases the chance that they could see the artist/band live.

Most 'Pet Peeves' are based on generalizations. But sorry if it appears like I'm some picky bastard with a pocket full of hatred toward the music world, I just went too much into detail about what I dislike.

I understand that. It's just, I've seen people produce much better lyrics than what I'm criticizing, and they still seem to retain tune and overall quality. Of course, some genres are easier to compose than others, but sometimes all I see is formulaic crap overshadowing artists with actual effort in their writing. I know it's not easy to write a good song with good lyrics, but I've seen some artists do it a hell of a lot better than others, and they end up being a minority. That's where my criticism comes from.

And that's awesome. My problem is with the people who bash popular music because it's popular. Make no mistake, pride and promotion of lesser known artists is a great thing for the industry. But some people take it too far, and bash anything popular, even material that they once supported--thus becoming clockwork hypocrites. But I'm on board with your ideas.
I just wanna underline that I don't disagree with you. My ideals are just a bit more critical towards the current music world.
You care too much, stop caring and listen.

The fact that there is almost no sheet music for cello on the internet besides folk and pop songs
I dislike when bands/artists use 4/4's throughout the whole song.
Can't they change it up? :(
Mainstream artists (most) do that AND use the same beat throughout the whole song, that's even worse for me...
*boom da tsk boom da TSK* over and over again...

That's an odd one, I suppose 4/4 just feels more natural to us (it depends on the culture I believe), but 4/4 time signature doesn't mean the song will be repetitive. Song in 5/4 can repeat the same beat over and over again.
Maybe you need to open up your Jazz repertoire.

That song is in 4/4 for the entirety of the song (didn't double check).
yeah I think he was talking more about pop music, posting bitches brew in that kind of discussion would blow it apart tbh.
loads of pop music is also in 3/4 tho
oh hey it's this thread.
not so much about listening to music, but whenever I write something and I'm pretty sure I just ripped someone off but can't figure out who
When people just HAVE to criticise a band if they're doing an homage/tribute to someone.
Seriously, i was at Lollapalooza on saturday and muse played Lithium by Nirvana because it was the anniversary of Kurt's death, and sure enough, as soon as they finished playing it, some asshole beside me goes "oh my god why are they trying to be Nirvana?"
I mean, fucking seriously?
[editline]7th April 2014[/editline]
and i always see this happen whenever a band covers a song by another bigger band, i mean, do you not understand what an homage is? They're not trying to cash in on someone else for fuck's sake

Somewhere between that post (which is nowhere near as old as I thought), I started listening to rap and I think I found a new biggest annoyance; hashtag rap. I don't fucking care how brilliant your analogy is, it either breaks flow or just makes it blatantly obvious you thought to yourself 'shit i ran out of space for the analogy, better just leave out some words'.

Probably been posted. But when people judge you and insults you for the music you listen to. If you're going to insult me for listening to a particularly genre just shut up.
When someone says they like classical music and you ask them what composers they like and they shrug and start listing instruments instead.

BAGHDAD, April 25 (Xinhua) -- At least 33 people were killed and 90 others wounded in a series of bombing attacks at a parliamentary election rally in Iraq's capital city of Baghdad on Friday, an Interior Ministry source said.
The three back-to-back attacks, one roadside bomb and two car bombs, struck as supporters of the Sadiqun bloc, the political wing of Iraqi Shiite Islamist group Asaeb Ahel al-Haq, were holding a parliamentary election rally near a sports club in eastern Baghdad, the source said.
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, an al-Qaida breakaway group, has claimed responsibility for the deadly attacks in a statement, but the authenticity of the claim could not be independently verified.
The militant group said its members carried out the bombings to avenge the killing and torturing of Sunnis by Shiite militias.
The attack came just less than one week from Iraq's April 30 parliamentary elections, the first in the country since the withdrawal of U.S. troops in late 2011.
