Still 1st of October for New Zealanders, we're ahead by just 2 hours.
You guys should do a Sims 4 review. Better get one up fast to gain attention.
If anybody is interested in writing/editing/art stuffs for non-group reviews/published articles send an email to skeevyskeeve@gmail.com for more details. (I'll still be helping out with PT, this is for an alternative project nicknamed "Fabled.") Preview : (unfinished, obviously.)
If people want the KF and MP3 reviews to happen, we need a lead writer and editor for both.
I'd just like to throw my hat in for the possibility of doing some writing. I don't know about filling in the lead writer or editor posts for MP3 and KF, given that I own neither of them, but if there's anything else that comes up, I'd be very interested. My steam profile is linked to this account, if you want to add me to a group or something.
Okay just an update for Killing Floor and Max Payne 3, we managed to get 3 people, Ogopogo as a Lead Writer for Killing Floor, me as the Editor for Killing Floor. Tetsmega will be the Lead Writer for Max Payne 3, and G-Strogg the Editor for Max Payne 3. To clear up, I did bend the rules, as usually I wouldn't allow people from another review to work on another one, but I decided to let it happen just this once for the Test Reviews. You have a Month starting from Today, the 8th of September, you must have everything done by the 8th of October. And to clear up on what the Editor and Lead Writer differences are, here is the differences. First off the review writers will have to send the Lead Writer, then The Lead Writer combines all the reviews into one big post, picks/makes a sentence for a summary, makes sure there is no Bias, factcheck and spellcheck. The Lead Writer can contact me if they need help. After that the Lead Writer will send it to the Editor, who reads everything, make sure the Lead Writer hasn't written anything bias, spellcheck and factcheck, once that is done, it will be sent to me who will then post it on our site which atm is Tumblr. [editline]8th September 2014[/editline] OH and one more thing, if someone still wants to be a writer for MP3 or KF, let me know.
Killing Floor people could very well play a couple of games together too.
Killing Floor people could very well play a couple of games together too.
That would be fun. I'm almost never online, though. I have the first draft of my KF review done. Should I polish it on my own or email it to the lead or editor?
That would be fun. I'm almost never online, though. I have the first draft of my KF review done. Should I polish it on my own or email it to the lead or editor?
Send it to me.
I finished my Review of MGR:R, so I will send that to the Lead Writer and Editor.
I decided to go ahead and upload my review to Google Docs so people can get the idea of what type of review we are going for, now keep in mind this is my review so of course it isn't detailed. But it gets the idea. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1txdSvYtTOHgEkMhVdDPdnOaMvBANB5Kagt1qJI32ZfQ/edit?usp=sharing Also if you finished a review please send it to me at pointtaken.pt@gmail.com

The topics should naturally progress and the paragraphs should link so that you can't really stop reading because it's like it's all just one big thought. Try and create more of a narrative style rather than a speech style which is what it reads as at the moment. I think maybe consider as well the tense that you write in, I'm not exactly sure because I am no tense expert but experiment maybe with something like (since allegedly you're all writing without bias) "you will have a more appealing and smoother experience on the PC version than the console at these settings..." That puts your goal with the reviews in the forefront of the readers minds. I know I'm not an editor or whatever but feedback yeah? [editline]13th September 2014[/editline] More on what I mean by the tense: you're actually writing a bit apologetically and as a result it comes across as if it's almost all opinion. This is why I think it's mildly amusing (and why a site like objective game reviews will do better because they write with the intention of being so) to attempt to write without bias, you don't feel comfortable saying "you will experience this" because you can only say "I experienced this [you might not I guess because we're all different]" with the [brackets] being the implication. Better to act simply as if what you experienced was fact and there was no human error on your behalf, and everyone using the product as intended will get the same benefits and negatives.
Also before I actually go into reading the whole thing I just wanted to say saying "I like x" is a subjective statement. If the goal was to write objectively, statements have to be able to be falsified. i.e. saying "I like MGR because it's a fun game" is subjective because no one can disprove whether you really like MGR or not, we just have to take your word for it. But saying something like "MGR is a fast paced hack'n slash that tests players reflexes and combat skills in various situations" is objective because all claims can be falsified by evidence. For example: MGR is a hack and slash based on various criteria defined by the genre and other titles with similar characteristics. Reflexes are tested during game play where fast fingers can open up opportunities to do damage, and whiffing anything entirely will punish your life bar. Various encounters can be defined by how some rooms can be done by stealth, or are troublesome based on the enemy group you encounter, how certain rooms can break up or add tension based on the difficulty and the events in the story. However, game reviews take into account the writers feelings. These statements are entirely subjective, and is used to further show the enjoyment of a video game through their personal experiences. Some reviews become too subjective, and turn most games into a hate it/love it thing, when really just explaining the basic game play mechanics and whether they adhere to it's own rules (sometimes in a creative fashion) can make a game good. Subjectivity is actually important in this area because it can describe the writer's experience with the game in question and experiences with similar games. It's not all about being a robot. This is not just advice for Xonax's review, but just something I wanted to tell the writers before putting up their reviews. If you wanna talk about what you liked about the game, keep it personal and talk about your experiences with the gameplay. If you wanna talk about what made a part of the game good, make sure you use claims about the game that can be backed by evidence from viewing the game. If you wanna talk about both, maybe mention how certain parts of the game like game play, music, or graphics evoked emotion into you as the player. Edit: Infact, talking about both is what should be the biggest appeal to the reader. A graphics enthusiast will will always check benchmark videos. A gameplay enthusiast will always watch gameplay and how well it plays on the input method. A music enthusiast will always listen to the OST. An Art enthusiast will always admire the artwork. Talking about how any part evoked any feeling will make any enthusiast look at a game and think "X reviewer said this game him feel Y through the game's Z. If I buy and play the game, will I feel Y too?" The review should pull the reader in to the appeal of an emotional experience through objective statements.

So google docs is really good for letting me leave comments and shit on the reviews. If you're a writer for MGR or Max Payne 3, upload your work on google docs if possible and PM me when you're finished. We can contact each other on steam later about email permissions.
Due to Ogopogo not responding for the last couple of days I had to drop him from Lead Writer position on Killing Floor. Not to worry Tetsmega is the Lead writer now. So once you finish your Killing Floor review, please send it to him. You can grab his email either through me or himself.
As long as you don't recruit Hipsters with filthy whore Republican mouths, this will be great!
MGR Test Review failed to meet the deadline, our last chance at getting PT started is with the KF and MP3 Review, Deadline is 8th of October (for me, for you guys 7th of October.)
who didn't submit their reviews?
People did, but I need the editors to finish it as well. G-strogg never got back to me.
People did, but I need the editors to finish it as well. G-strogg never got back to me.
I got busy with two exams... sorry about that.
I got my kf review pretty much down. I'll put the finishing touches on it Tuesday since I have a day off then.
I got busy with two exams... sorry about that.
It's all good man.
Max Payne 3 Test Reviewed fail. About KF, While I did get an email with the second KF review, it has not been edited by Tetsmega or G-Strogg, at least that I know of, if they or haven't I will make a new announcement.
I can edit the KF review if tetsmega is busy
I can edit the KF review if tetsmega is busy
No you can't, either Tetsmega himself or G-Strogg edits it, anyone who is not a Lead Writer or Editor can't edit the reviews.
Review movies and literature ty.
The KF Review has failed, the review was not sent to a Lead Writer or Editor, at this moment it is unknown on what will happen.
Yeah I never recieved anything.
Hey everyone, sorry I've pretty much not been able to work on the reviews that were sent to me. I've been busy with moving homes and school over the past 2 weeks, but I have had time to work on it today. As of this post all the reviews should have been looked over, and is up to the writers to review my comments and suggestions and alert me when they're done. I know this whole experience has been extremely messy and frustrating to compile, but we're all amateurs here and don't lose anything out of still trying. Failure is simply a means to an end for success.
