i want to get one of these to play in my thrash band
Are they even good?
Bad time to practice bass riffs: 11:30 at night.
Are they even good?
It's good enough for Paul fuckin' McCartney.
It's good enough for Paul fuckin' McCartney.
It's good enough for me then :colbert:
I know Jazz bass necks and P-bass neck are interchangeable. I hope I'm not being ignorant when I would like a little more explanation of what you said. Also, would changing the bridge help?
EDIT: Schaller's Roller Bridge has adjustable string spacing, so that might work with a new neck. (http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Bridges,_tailpieces/Bass_bridges/Schaller_4-String_Roller_Bass_Bridge.html?tab=Details#details)
Standard scale length J and P necks may be. A short scale neck effectively brings the top nut closer to the bridge, in turn making the distance between the frets shorter. If the bridge position is not predetermined for use with the different scale length then the intonation over your fretboard will be shot to shit. Every note near enough will be out of tune.
Changing the bridge will only make a difference if you actually move it closer to the correct scale length. For example, say your bass is a 34" scale length from nut to bridge, with all the frets at the optimal position for said scale length, then you put a 30" scale length neck on the body, the frets will be optimised, but there will not be 30" between the nut and the bridge.

So, if I purchase a new bridge, I would have to move it closer to the pickups than the original bridge to match the length of the original short scale bass?
EDIT: Here is a picture of what I'm going for: (besides the thinner neck and whatnot) http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1870/77/1600/FenderPBassJr.jpg
EDIT: Or this: (same thing anyway) http://www.rondomusic.com/photos/bass/spb5734lpb1.jpg
EDIT: They are out of stock for the jazz bass. I'm seriously starting to lose it!
EDIT: If someone could find me a short scale (preferably jazz bass) bass neck, I would greatly appreciate it. I already checked Warmoth and they aren't selling any short scale bass necks right now.
I have a 4 string Ibanez SR400 signed by Paul Gilbert, a 6 string Ibanez SR506, and a Squier fretless jazz bass. I'll post some pics tomorrow.
OP looking for some help here, I've been playing for close to a year now, but whenever I play fast, I get massive blisters on my fingers (you win the challenge of the day if you didn't read that in Ringo Starr's voice), that is, the ones I use to pick the strings.
Any advice on how I can reduce these, or stuff I can use that will prevent the blisters but not interfere with the bass playing?

Go see a doctor, that shouldn't be happening if you've been playing for a year. Check your calluses, how big are they?
Heh i like my T-bird

Cool, the shape is not something for me though.
You should've gotten a 5 string Thundy! I played one once and it was fantastic.

Seriously, buy a short scale bass and be happy with it. You'll waste money and in all likelihood destroy a perfectly good instrument by changing the scale length. Keep the bass you have as is and get another bass for the short scale. If you try to amalgamate them you will have a lot of work, a lot of money to spend and a lot of time for an instrument which may not be so great when it's done.

I guess you're right.
EDIT: I have decided on modding a Squier Bronco. I know all the parts I want to change except I can't find a bridge. Any suggestions?
EDIT: Found evertyhing with free shipping, but the total cost is: $336

I have the Goth Thunderbird. I really like your case though, where'd you get it?
I found a Bronco Bass with nothing missing except for the neck for a low price, and warmoth necks are $130 too much. Does any one know where I could find a cheap, quality short scale bass neck that fits a Bronco?
Maybe try Mighty Mite. Warmoth necks are fairly reasonable considering the quality though. Failing that, Mighty Mite or GFS might do them, but GFS is lower quality than the other 2

I've got $300 tops for the bass and renovations so Warmoth is out of my price range (I can probably buy a Warmoth neck later after I acquire more money.) I've heard Mighty Mite is hit or miss when it comes to quality, their website is almost unnavigable, and I don't see that they sell any short scale necks. I've heard awful things about GFS necks. Not to trump on all your suggestions, just telling you what I see.
See a doctor? No. Just play guitar more. Wait for the blisters to harden and use a pick until then.

Got it from the Online shop i bougth it from, just ask your local dealership if they can order a hardcase i know they usually go for 170 bucks and up
Got my new "Flea Bass Street" last tuesday.

Played with it at a gig the day after, and 2 producers came up to me and was like; "How long have you played bass?"
I was like; "About 1½ year."
Apparently they couldn't belive it, they said I had real talent for playing bass, and that they might contact me sometime soon.
Basicly, my new baby brings me luck :h::h::h:
Oh, but here's the sad part. They producers told me that I was the only part of my band they needed. If I can't play with my band, I'm not sure I want to a contract with anyone :ohdear:
If they're approaching you and you alone then chances are they're looking for a session player, which would let you keep playing with other people. Hell even if they sign you as a member of another band provided you make sure the contract is legit you can play in other bands
Not to sound like I don't believe you but if they ARE looking for session players then either 1. You are a true prodigy 2. They're a new label who don't really know the standard for session players or 3. they're tire kickers/liars.
Session players average rate is... £120 an hour I believe, and are booked in 3 hour slots by contract. You don't get paid something like that without serious chops, and serious diversity. In short, if you are as good as they think you are, fucking jackpot. If there's something awry, don't be too disappointed :unsmith:

How is the bass? That's the one I've been looking at, color and all

It's wonderful, I really love the sound of it and the simple yet beautiful design makes it a incredible bass!
And it's cheap too! I payed €280 for it (That'd be $299 or £180) and I strongly recommend it and so does my professional music teachers :haw:

I would never be dissapointed, or skeptical. They haven't contacted me in anyways since the gig, so I'm not sure. :v:
But thanks a lot for the optimism and info though :h:

very nice, i was looking into getting one myself! glad to hear that they sound good :)
i'm guessing that is a flea bass its rather good for funk right?.. :downs:
I just got my first bass. It's a fender something or other. Was inspired by Geddy Lee. I usually only play drums, but it's time for me to learn a string instrument :S.
So far I have learned how to play E1M1 from doom on a single string, I can do that double finger thing pretty well and my fingers are actually fast considering it's like my second day trying to play any kind of guitar. Also I refuse using a pick, PICKS ARE FOR PUSSYS.
one of my calluses has turned a delightfully earthy brown with a smidge of green :q:
