I just got my first bass. It's a fender something or other. Was inspired by Geddy Lee. I usually only play drums, but it's time for me to learn a string instrument :S. So far I have learned how to play E1M1 from doom on a single string, I can do that double finger thing pretty well and my fingers are actually fast considering it's like my second day trying to play any kind of guitar. Also I refuse using a pick, PICKS ARE FOR PUSSYS.
there is nothing wrong with using a pick
I need to find people to jam with. It's kinda discouraging still practicing in my room just by myself. I've been taking lessons for a year and a few months now and my teacher is encouraging it.
there is nothing wrong with using a pick
bahaha you use a pick :downs:
PICKS ARE FOR PUSSYS.
Nope.
there is nothing wrong with using a pick
Agreed, i use a pick and play better than a lot of people that play other styles.
Bass is currently tuned to DEADG. Never found a use for a low B, and having an easy way to do some good old 5th chords appeals to my lazy nature.
I have my ibby 4 string in BEAD at the moment. Pretty fun to mess around with, but it's a pain in the ass having to move my hand up the neck just for a note or two that I'd normally just go to the G string for. Other than that, I like it
i play with my thumb, i'm weird picks aren't for pussys though, some popular songs wont sound right without a pick
Sorry for shitty pictures. Here are 2 of my basses. All images thumbed. Left: MusicMan Stingray 4 string; Right: Ibanez GSR200 (My first bass) [img_thumb]http://i30.tinypic.com/5v42ec.jpg[/img_thumb] Here are my other two, but not my pictures. First: Ibanez AEB10BE Acoustic Bass [img_thumb]http://imagethumbnails.milo.com/007/434/914/290/7434602_7550914_290.jpg[/img_thumb] Second: Ashbory Bass Blue [img_thumb]http://www.doctorbass.net/imagftp/Ashbory-azul.jpg[/img_thumb] I also have this amp: [img_thumb]http://www.drumza.com/images/GallienKruegerBackline600GuitarAmp.jpg[/img_thumb] on this cab: [img_thumb]http://www.soundsliveshop.com/Handlers/ProductDetail/Main/ProductDetailImage.ashx?Path=/Resources/Images/main/210blxcabinet.jpg[/img_thumb] I find myself using the acoustic the most, because of it's convenience, and because I don't think my neighbors like it when I use my amp. Our apartments aren't exactly the best for sound.
I can't decide what to save up for 300 Dollars, to replace my 'okay' bass. I kind of want an acoustic to mess around on, 200 dollars. Or save up for a nice piano (I'm learning piano alongside bass)
I don't use a pick. But not because I'm against it, it's because I can't use one to save my life.
I don't use a pick. But not because I'm against it, it's because I can't use one to save my life.
I feel the same way. It just doesn't feel right for me to use one.. Maybe weird, but it feels more 'satisfying' to me to pluck the strings.
After 2 years of playing bass, In which I have perfected finger technique of different styles and slap bass, I'm only beginning to use a pick.

But it is still my main 4 stringer.

[editline]12th March 2011[/editline]
That acoustic bass is very nice, it has been my main bass for about 6 months but now I use a 5 string electric instead.
How good is the acoustic? What does it sound like?
It sounds great although it's not loud enough to play alongside two or more acoustic guitars. Here are some sound samples. How easy is it to play?
I was thinking to get an electric guitar but I might get this instead and put money towards a guitar when I start working. How easy is it to play?
I barely even notice the strings when I play on it but that may be because I learned how to play on a bass with 6-7mm action. In short: it plays like a dream.

In short: it plays like a dream.
I started playing on very high action as well, only recently dropped it on my first guitar. [editline]12th March 2011[/editline] Do you think it would be suitable to take down to the beach and shit to play to my friends around a fire? What's the model?
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Squier-Affinity-Series-J-Bass-102581444-i1150678.gc#customer-reviews getting this, its all i can afford really. and i hear its good for funk, which is what i mostly plan on playing. ANY OBJECTIONS?
Sure as long if you play with a pick or else it wont be loud enough. The model is an Ibanez AEB8E.
I normally play Steve Harris style or slap, but Yeah a pick would be needed for slow songs. [editline]12th March 2011[/editline] Fuck, It's too expensive.

Just over £200, I'm only getting £100 and the rest I have to pay myself, so I don't really want to be spending much over £80.

got a job atm, don't start until may though and i'm broke. the earliest i can get a different job is about a month, when i move, so i dunno. we'll see i guess.
If money was no object, what bass would you buy? I'm thinking I'll get back to you guys on that.
If money was no object, what bass would you buy? I'm thinking I'll get back to you guys on that.
I would pee... on everything... [editline]14th March 2011[/editline] Maybe a Fender jazz bass. [editline]14th March 2011[/editline] Or a Rickenbacker
If money was no object, what bass would you buy? I'm thinking I'll get back to you guys on that.
A 47inch scale 79x3string fretless bass :colbert: But seriously? I think a conklin custom 7string fretless bass.
Only guy I've heard of who uses those (fretted) is Jeff Hughell, he used to be in Brain Drill.
