to be honest you really don't need more than a 5 string unless you're playing on your own, with no guitar or anything. even then a 5 string stretches it.
With a sixer tuned F#BEADG you can play any genre well without any detuning.
To be honest I don't think a five string pushes it at all. I enjoy having the extra string I use it alot, I like screwing around and playing melodies with a bassline below them all at once. Good example of that being John Myung's Solar Groove
if you make proper use of it, fair enough

I fucking love Phil X.

A Rickenbacker 4003, it's lovely. But I'm more into the 4001 with the horseshoe.
That's a guitar with thicker strings, not a bass.
That is a bass.

There are a couple of reasons why they call it a bass: Low frequencies, 30 inch neck, which classifies it as a shortscale bass, It says Fender Bass VI on the headstock. Even better, That bass has a shorter neck, and uses guitar machine heads. Your arguments are invalid.

Nothing stops you from stringing a... Peavey NTB6 for EADGBE and playing it with a pick. I dare say it is both a Baritone guitar and a shortscale bass at the same time. Also - DOD FX25(B) or Digitech Bass Synth Wah or maybe something more exotic (Needs to be a compact boss-size pedal)? I need to fill that gap in my pedalboard with something. I used to have a DS-1 in there. The Me-20 already has a great distortion and compressor which I use all the time but the synth sounds aren't quite there.
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but those are arguments.
I meant the original post, it was meant as a humorous observation, not an argument starter, some people are just looking for an argument.
I fail to see the humorous aspect.
if I saw it in a shop, I would think it's a guitar.
What's it's name?
Rickenbacker 4003 4-String Electric Bass
I can't wait to get my new strings and bass pedal :v: Whenever I pick up my guitar, compared to my bass, the strings feel so frail and small, like they're going to break, I love my bass
my fucking fingers keep getting blisters instead of calluses i need to stop playing so often
Does anyone have this pedal? I've heard it's not the greatest sound quality, but I'm just playing for fun, and I'd love to experiment with all the different effects and what not that it can make.
I've never put reverb on a bass. Is that common at all?
I've never put reverb on a bass. Is that common at all?
Reverb on a bass sounds dull if you ask me.
It sort of works if you split the high frequencies and affect them but all in all I've never found a real use for such an effect on bass. Rooster, have you considered the Me-20B? It is more expensive but you may be able to get a used one for pretty cheap, those digitech MultiFX have never done it for me personally.

Either way, it's just for fun, I'm not playing around or anything at the moment, but thanks anyways.
Anyone here actually play double bass? i'd love to learn but I do not own my own and the school's is in terrible shape
I do, it's the best kind of bass there is!
I do, Though I mostly play electric bass. I plan to use the double bass in this band I am in but I need a pickup for it.
