I got a SR305 for Christmas, a brilliant easy to play bass but I broke the B string while tuning it, I got the wrong B.
Put flatwounds on my bass, they feel so silky smooth :buddy:
I heard mixed things about flatwounds. Especially the Steve Harris signatures (which I was going to get till I read the reviews). They can shred your fingers and go muddy pretty quick. I guess it'd be different for different makes and all, but I think I've been convinced into keeping roundwounds.

I'd build up big ass calluses before using them.
Flats are the best when on a P bass. Period. That said, grounds are awesome for PJ basses.

And I was getting tired of how rough they were. If they start to lose their tone, I can replace'em pretty easy.
I use the hartke hydrive 210C as an amp, All my basses and guitars sound wonderful through it, i would recommend it to all you bass players. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/HyDrive210C/

Hartke is too expensive, loud and boomy for me.
I was lucky too get it second hand, i paid 300 euros for it, at that price definitely worth it, its easily loud enough to play with my band, and for some medium size gigs.

Hey guys, do you think this is a good bass? http://www.qualityguitars.com/ViewProduct.asp?ModelNumber=GSR100EXBK
Hey guys, do you think this is a good bass? http://www.qualityguitars.com/ViewProduct.asp?ModelNumber=GSR100EXBK
It's a bad bass.
Hey guys, do you think this is a good bass? http://www.qualityguitars.com/ViewProduct.asp?ModelNumber=GSR100EXBK
What's your budget, what do you play, if your just starting to play bass I'd just go for a cheap strat copy as you can play a range of styles and is cheap and get a new bass in a year or so with a bigger budget and a bigger understanding of what you want.
here's mine Squier vintage modified P-bass love it
Fuck nucleardwarf I have NEVER seen you post anything that isn't a picture of your bass
my basses: Harley Benton P-bass copy (now hasSeymour Duncan SPB3 pickups): Dean Metalman Z w/stock Dean Magnetic Technologies passive soapbar: amp: Harley Benton HBW-80: [editline]28th December 2010[/editline] I also have a Marshall Jackhammer JH-1 distortion and Artec APW-5 wah wah
How is the sound and build quality of that Harley Benton bass? I am thinking of perhaps buying a fretless one. (if I ever have the money)
surprisingly good on both fronts, especially since mine is the £70 cheapo special, and isn't actually made of wood. if you do get one, make sure the specs say what wood it is. I really have no complaints with it though, it was a great starter. only niggle is that it has really low action so it rattles quite a bit. I should mention it now has an Iron Maiden sticker next to the bridge and a Black Label Society pick sticker on the pickguard

I find it odd that everyone in music discussion is all over Iron Maiden and Metallica's dicks. Like they're good, but definitely not close to the best imho. I just got a bass on Christmas and have spent atleast 3 hours each day since just playing my bass and I've managed to get some good sounding riffs going. I've got tons of friends who are musically inclined and more than willing to help me out, so hopefully I can get some pointers here and there. Anyways, prepare for some disgusting bass. About Primus and their dirty basslines: I consider this one more muddy though.
I find it odd that everyone in music discussion is all over Iron Maiden and Metallica's dicks. Like they're good, but definitely not close to the best imho.
Did you stop to think that a lot of people enjoy their music?
I find it odd that everyone in music discussion is all over Iron Maiden and Metallica's dicks. Like they're good, but definitely not close to the best imho.
It's within other's rights to like bands more than you do.
loldean
:sigh:
I'm just saying that it seems like they're the most popular in music discussion and I'm not sure why. [editline]29th December 2010[/editline] And that they're referenced a lot more often than other bands that have even more prestige than them.
like who? Iron Maiden are one of the longest running bands in music today, over 30 years, still going strong and helped to pioneer a new movement within metal music that is still adored today. Steve Harris is regarded as one of the best bassists within metal, and one of the most influential. check with a modern metal band's bassist and he will most likely list off Steve Harris as an influence. think where metal would be without Iron Maiden.
Anyways, prepare for some disgusting bass.
That clip is genius. The person(s) that directs Primus's music video's is(are) awesome. I've never been really into Iron Maiden because I never really listened to it, maybe here and there a song over the ages. Though I agree the bass lines I heard of Iron Maiden were cool. Also Jeroen Paul Thesseling is one of my favorite metal bassists. Great bass line up in this bitch. John Myung and Michael Lepond are also high on my list of favorite bassists.
