Is it bad I don't want to buy Ibanez basses because I really hate how they look?
It's personal preference, dude. So no, it's okay. [editline]22nd February 2011[/editline] Page king content
Only Ibanez bass I like is the ATK series.
Only Ibanez bass I like is the ATK series.
The BTB series is also quite good and they're sexy too in my opinion.
Actually, I lied, this is the one Ibanez that I love the look of
I must find one...

I honestly never saw the brilliance in Geddy Lee besides his actual ability to write songs, then I tried to play one of those songs on bass... I earned an entire new respect, and sore arms.
Bassists that don't just double up guitar riffs are becoming a rare breed. :frown: I know there are some out there, but not too many.
Where's the fun in doubling up a guitar riff anyway? Sure it provides for a thicker sound but the songs doesn't become better of it, at times it can make the song better but not always.
Read my sentence again. Bass lines > Doubling up guitar riffs.
I read my response again and I saw that the response was not in the right words so I edited it.
I'm thinking about sanding and repainting my guitar, it's not a very pricey guitar, and I'll be upgrading near the end of the year anyway, I just wanted to know if anyone has any tips? I'll probably do it during spring break, if I decide to.
is sweet it had to be a panorama. its Ferrari red. so awesome. i am kinda new with the bass playing, but i took some 1 on 1 lessons bout 2 years ago with this 20 something dude named Issac who made a bass out of a weegee board and a toilet seat and make a guitar out of a shovel. they were originally guitar lessons but he said i was not very good at cords and i seemed like more of a plucker. he played shovel guitar in the steam punk band at the maker faire(if anyone knows about that.) [editline]24th February 2011[/editline] here is some stuff my band recorded with my bass playing. we are going to record a cover "steady as she goes" by the Raccantours and "Drain You" by Nirvana soon. bass line on steady as she goes is fun but hard. i just want you to know, before you harsh my mellow, that my band is not a very serous band. I almost bought that same strap.
ever since getting a P bass with P and J pickups, I think regular P basses look bare between the bridge and pickguard
Ibanez ATK, very versatile bass.
The headstock looks ugly in my opinion.
No, I can't say I've ever been a fan of it either.
Since this is the bass thread I post my bass here too. [img_thumb]http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/1829/ibanezbas1.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/7116/ibanezbas2.jpg[/img_thumb] And disregard the DBZ posters they have been there for 10 years now.
I own a Squier P-Bass and an Ibanez AEB10E. I'm thinking about replacing the neck on the P-Bass with a short scale jazz bass ripoff neck. Good or bad idea? Here is the bass that has the neck I would be using : http://www.rondomusic.com/sjb6234lpb.html EDIT: Just found out they are out of stock. I hope they get more in soon. EDIT: It turns out they just renamed the bass, here is the new version: (http://www.rondomusic.com/ursa2jrrncar.html)
I own a J-Westfields something or another (crap body). Although I've installed some new EMG J active and have some sweet thick fender strings. I keep my amp (my amp changes a lot :P) settings to B-8, M-7 and T-3. Which makes a cool Blues sound, with sometimes a chorus pedal on top(sometimes Loop). Although my main will always be piano, I bloody love bass. :D
short scale
No.
I honestly never saw the brilliance in Geddy Lee besides his actual ability to write songs, then I tried to play one of those songs on bass... I earned an entire new respect, and sore arms.
Amazing stuff... Bass is such a powerfull instrument and it can contribute so much more to a song than just reinforcing guitar riffs. Now they even mix it so that it´s real quiet and has no mid or treble, you can´t even hear the bass in most songs without trying really hard. It´s like bassists aren´t even trying anymore. Bass guitar is such an underated instrument. When I told my friend I was buying a bass he was all like "Seriously? It´s just BWOOOO BWOOOO". Go listen to Yes or Rush, or anything proper really, and then come tell me how "bwooo bwooo it is. By the way, any tips on fingerpicking? I´ve been almost only with a pick (bass with a pick woohoo, lots of great bassists play with a pick) and fingerpicking seems just really clumsy and slow. Any good exercises or easy songs etc.?
Just get your two fingers and keep trying to do it, you'll eventually find the right way to do it (makes a good sound and doesn't tire out your fingers) and keep practicing that till it becomes second nature.
Fuck I want me one of those, are they good?
I don't know about the Gibson one but i have a Epiphone Goth Thunderbird and it's the shit. I also have an Ibanez SR300 Soundgear that's great. My amp is a Peavy Max 158, that's been in the shop for a fucking month because the cunt that's supposed to be fixing it is being a lazy ass.
i want to get one of these to play in my thrash band
Get a pink one for your trash band.

There's a reason frets are laid out the way they are, it's because their intonation corresponds with the intonation as set at the bridge, changing the position of the frets will make the instrument nigh on unusable. Either buy another bass and keep the Squier or see if you can get a suitable conversion neck on Warmoth (probably not)

I hope I'm not being ignorant when I would like a little more explanation of what you said. Also, would changing the bridge help? EDIT: Schaller's Roller Bridge has adjustable string spacing, so that might work with a new neck.
