I mean I watched an episode and a half and it was the least self aware shit in the universe. it literally felt like I was watching a 15 year old's fanfiction animated.
feel free to disagree with me but I didn't feel any self aware comedy in the first episode and a half, it was just a really poorly made show.
The fucking robot twist is 10/10. Love this anime.

I think the show is self aware, but it's just intentionally kind of vapid and pointless in the same vein of 'ironic' memes. it's funny, but it's pretty dumb, and not much of a satire
I feel it as more of an (incredibly american) affectionate parody of really shitty forgotten 2000s anime
so i guess this is the end result of deliberately making a joke dub anime from scratch and having your budget actually fall out from under you while in production

I can see it having the same sort of appeal that the boondocks did. it's missing the edginess but all the delivery is similar.
doesn't tick all the boxes for me but there is something to it for sure.
