No, they changed it so that 'lower rank' or somewhat Daleks still have the old armour but are genetically pure. Higher rank Daleks, like some of the red drones in there still exist, you saw a Supreme aswell.
This was mostly/partly because of fan complaints.

Starting with david tennant is not an option, You need to start from the beginning. Whether or not you watch the original series depends on if you can bare how dated it is, I didn't watch it and started the new series just fine.

Colin Baker obviously got bored of going to conventions and starring in mediocre panto's if he's going on IAC. In every photo I've seen of him at a convention, he looks like he hates his life.
