It's not real arguing. It's mostly in jest.
Generic comment defending Matt Smith.
in all seriousness, there are moments when Smith just... damn, man. You really feel it and it is epic.
The moments when the Doctor gets mad is where he shines in my opinion.

My dad watches a ton of Doctor Who, and I've never seen a full episode, only bits and pieces. It's piqued my interest and I want to start watching it.
Which episode is a nice place to start?

New Series 1 with Christopher Eccleston (2005 series - episode: 'Rose') and onwards.
If you enjoy it, you can dip in to the 'Classic' 1963+ series whenever possible.

Anyway, done for the day. More casual arguments tomorrow.
2005. Series 1. The beginning of the reboot deliberately made accessible to new fans.
watch here to "the next doctor"
http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Doctor_Who/70142441
then "planet of the dead"
(no netflix link)
then "waters of mars"
http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Doctor_Who_The_Waters_of_Mars/70128730
then "end of time"
http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Doctor_Who_The_End_of_Time/70221573
then continue with the main series at 5
What LordCrypto is trying to say (and has provided helpful links) is you should watch
Series 1
Series 2
Series 3
Series 4
Specials (Here there was a bit of a production shake-up occuring so inbetween Series 4 and Series 5 are four 'special' episodes. Which LordCrypto is linking you to. Most people miss these entirely and they are VERY important to the shows plot. Don't look anything up. Just know that)
Series 5 (numbering continues as normal from here)

As others said, 2005 series. Started with them myself 15 days ago as first Doctor Who I've ever watched.
First episode is so-so, gets progressively better and you'll get hooked once you've watched Empty Child.

He has his moments, but so far (which isn't very far, only got to about half of his first season) he isn't as good as Tennant (still good though).
Which reminds me, new series of Sherlock is on this year. Hell yeah.
Actually, all we know is that it starts filming this year

I already made one that sometimes gets bumped and shit.

Also, you won't be able to watch the 2010 christmas special on netflix.
for whatever reason it isn't included (also netflix won't run 7a until the 7 complete set is out)
I want to start watching Doctor Who but I don't know where to start. Which season and or Doctor should I start with?
Scroll up, just went through it on this very page.
also did anyone notice that they couldn't be bothered to have a physical light in 11th hour right before the sonic exploding
when the lights were exploding there was never a lightbulb to explode

That reminds me, any more flickering lights this week or did that end up just being coincidental foreshadowing during the last part?

If you didn't know already John Barrowman now makes a full time career telling people he wants to be back in Doctor Who. He does it every day. Here's his latest plea.

I'm willing to bet everybody involved has been contacted. This story would've been in planning for ages, Moffat would've found out availability some point last year to begin serious planning so he knows how to write it. Which I imagine is already a couple of drafts in. If not nearly complete.
Jenna and Matt seem to hint they know what it is.
Surprised that most comments on that article have the opinion that Doctor Who shouldn't bring him back, I disagree.. Gotta love Captain Jack.

Sorry about that, didn't realize it.
I started watching Doctor Who the other day on Netflix. Oh my god, its amazing. Too bad the south american netflix doesnt have the specials. Now I'm The Shakespeare Code.

I'd want to see him return maybe as a one-off, just to see how he gets along with the current doctor, but I don't think I'd want him back long-term.

Digital commenter's are sub human scum that don't know anything but act like they do because they finally got an opportunity for somebody to listen to their bull. On Doctor Who stories I've seen people who have said the show has gone to shit and then later admit they've never ever seen a single episode. Yet still argue they are right and a bunch of people (who also have never watched an episode) come and defend and agree his opinion.
On non Doctor Who matters like the charts it's even worse. Jake Bugg scored a number 1 album and the comments were "Never heard of him", "Crap", "Needs to get with the times, guitar music is on it's way out". When James Arthur (X-factor winner who plays his own instruments, writes all his own music and released a single for charity) was up against that Hillsborough Charity Single (Which included a bunch of celebrities some of which have supported X-factor or competed in it) Digital Spy commenters celebrated the Hillsborough victory because it was "real music" and "for charity" ignoring the same criteria applies to the other song.
Also Digital Spy said Call me Maybe was the song of 2012, despite it's annoyance I have to agree. It was everywhere and it has grown on me and reminds me of the summer 2012. Digital Spy commenters "Not real music, where's -insert pop star here-"?
Basically Digital Spy is a shit hole if you scroll down beyond the article.

I agree. Though I do want to see how he would act as a full time companion since he's changed so much over the centuries.

It's cool, I was just pointing it out. We get that question a fair bit.
Started watching the Matt Smith series today. He's ok but not as good as Tennant. Amy finally is an assistant with some balls and that can be useful [sp]without getting the knowledge of a timelord beamed into her head or channeling the TARDIS' vortex[/sp] (and they sure love to sneak in sexualizations and innuendos with her huh?). Rory is still useless and I bet he isn't the one wearing the pants in the relationship, but I assume he gets better later just like[sp] Mickey the idiot[/sp].
Though I can't fucking stand River, seriously.
I'm on episode 8 of Matt Smiths series and I think every Doctor regeneration takes some time getting used to. I though nobody could outperform Eccleston and then Tennant shows up and does exactly so.
Matt is a lot more subtle in his quirky-ness, imo. Might be that whats bothering you.
You mean less subtle?
matt smith gets better when he gets all serious and shit
Doctor Who is a dead series they should have ended it after the first doctor died.
I think Matt is really good, but he did take some getting used to. Now that he's grown on me I think he gets close to Tennant, but still not quite as good.
Doctor Who is a dead series they should have ended it after the first doctor died.
I know this is a gimmick account but I can't help but pointing out that the first doctor technically never died, simply changed.
Also angry Matt Smith reminds me of Colin Baker a bit.
"Nobody Human has anything to say to me today!"
"If this is just the mouth, then I would love to see the stomach."
RAWRRWWREERERWRERE
"But not right not."
Beast Below is full of great lines. I can't rate it as low as many seem to.
FYI: Collectormania is said to be Jenna's only event in 2013.
You mean less subtle?
Interesting. You rated me disagree.
I would say a defining part of the eleventh Doctor is how quirky he is. What springs to mind is how he's completely unfamiliar with basic society, he thinks Amy swallowed a planet when she's pregnant. He spits out wine instantly after drinking it. He dresses as Sherlock Holmes and pretends to be him even when everybody knows he's not. He thinks bow ties are cool. He thinks fezzes are cool. He thinks stetsons are cool. He doesn't notice Rory isn't dead despite speaking to him. He hides in a giant cake. He gleefully admits he writes a christmas list.
The eleventh Doctor is child like and quirky all the time. Compared to Nine being serious and broody. And Ten being loud and overly human.
In what way would you say he is more subtle at being quirky? Because I think he's the quirkiest version of The Doctor since Tom Baker.

Every Moffat episode has great lines. Sometimes he lets the plot run away and everything gets very convenient when things need fixing. But his dialogue is top notch.
Beast Below has great dialogue. Very important to the series. Has a great look and feel. Plus an important moral message. I think it's great. Just had a lot of expectations attached because it was a new series, Matt was still being judged and so was Karen, Eleventh Hour was so good, it was a Moff story etc.
