I know you're all experts on the Doctor and will think I'm very ignorant but when did the Doctor start being able to control the TARDIS so precisely that he can always enter Amy and Rory's timeline at a point in their lives that seems to them to be the future relative to the last time they saw him?
Also I thought the Doctor showed a lot of restraint in not killing Solomon when he learned how he had murdered the Silurians - but was slightly baffled by the ease with which the Doctor teleported to Solomon's ship. Didn't he say "local teleports are burned out" when they were at the beach/engine room?
By local I think he meant the teleporters on the engine deck, when he teleported he was in the control room.

As shown as recently as Pond Life Episode 2 - this isn't always the case.
Really enjoyed that episode, i love it when the doctor get's dark and after the triceratops you could see he was angry. Also really liked that bit when he was talking to Amy and he said you'll be there till the end of me and she said or vice versa and the doctor told her to stop.
My dad laughed at the joke about crashing into the moon, he really wants to see the Sea Devils and the Ice Warriors return.
I was let down at the price check on the doctor tbh.

He doesn't. In the prequel to Asylum he lands too early. It's just we don't see his failures.
He's completely unaware of how to control the damn thing which is why also in the prequel he phones up and says "I'll swing by tonight.. whenever tonight is..". In this episode he didn't even notice it had been 10 months. He's gotten worse if anything.

Heart warming scene. It ws the little things that made Brian so fantastic. Like when had started running long before Rory and The Doctor on the beach.
Still not sure how a time lord can ever really say "There's not enough time!"

Isn't that down to that fact that the TARDIS is meant to be piloted by about 8 timelords? IRC he's always had trouble piloting it.
Such a great episode, largely because it exceeded everyone's expectations.
I'm fairly sure everyone was thinking that this was going to be a cheesy mess.
Lovely.
Loved the scene with Brian and the sandwiches and tea.

I really need to watch Pond Life.

He must be able to control the TARDIS to some extent, surely? It's kind of an extension of him. I thought he was pretending not to have realised he hadn't visited Amy and Rory for months because he wanted to give them a chance to spend time together on their own.
Well there's always been that thing of the TARDIS taking the doctor to where he is needed, which kinda seems irrelevant in time travel, unless it's like he is cruising around space-time and the TARDIS keeps an eye out for anything near by, although that makes it sound like the TARDIS has more control than the Doctor does, however that episode with the junkyard planet explored that lore a significant amount.
And then there's the whole thing where people call him. Again maybe he just gets the message as he goes through that time, or the TARDIS picks when it would be a good time for him, sort of like an assistant. Heck, maybe the TARDIS chooses when he gets certain messages based on the incarnation. As for when people get called on there mobiles, I'll just put that as the whole thing where the 10th doctor was talking about how when he goes somewhere/meets someone he sort of creates a node where if he goes off for say an hour, if he tries to come back to that point, the closest he could get would be an hour later, or whatever he said to Wilfred. Oh well, I'm rambling, it's all timey-wimey stuff in the end.
Nope, never has. The Tardis pretty much told him last series she takes him everywhere.
I guess it's just done for plot/comedic convenience.
Doctor Who isn't hard scifi you're not meant to think about these things

It's usually fun though to try and create theories for the hows and whys.
Speaking of which, where did the parliament of daleks come from?
Did that ark thingy from the WWII ep act as a Dalek spawn point?
I'm happy to retcon RTD blowing up every Dalek in known existence again and again. It was very lame for long-term use of the show's most iconic villains. Whereas now, we know they are still a full force out there.
Also, Doctor Who bath robes

And does anyone know what the font is they use for the opening credits cast roll in the title sequence? I must know. The whole texturing of the logo each time is a neat touch too.

It's not really retconning since the new Daleks were set free in Season 5 to recreate the empire.

I was expecting to see infinite or something

Oh, yes, I'm aware of that. But I would be happy to do it regardless. Because it was still lame. In my opinion, of course.
Anybody notice the "Doctor Who" title changes each week? Last week it had Dalek balls, this week scales.
Unless I was seeing things.

Aye; he made a pretty decent one-time companion. Kind of helped that he played both Arthur Weasely and that one vampire librarian in Being Human.
I was expecting/hoping the extremely valuable thing on that ship to be the Tardis.. surely that's more valuable than Queen Nefertiti?

Yeah, I wanted it to be Amy or Rory or the TARDIS.
Yeah, I wanted it to be Amy or Rory or the TARDIS.
Amy and Rory could've been interesting, although I can't really figure out why they'd be valuable other than as a hostage to make The Doctor do what they want..
Would've liked a bit more depth to it all though. It was very much like the writer sat down and tried to explain his episode
"Rory's dad is here"
"Why?"
"No reason"
"But we can't just have him running around for no reason"
"Okay he is needed to fly the ship"
"Why would they design it like that?!"
"So Rory's dad can come!"
"Oh have you got a story you want to tell about Rory and his relationship with his father?"
"No I just want this hilarious scene where The Doctor literally lands on them in his TARDIS"
"...okay anything else?"
"Queen Nefertiti"
"WHY?"
Would've preferred we cut out Queen Nefertiti and Riddell even though I specially love Riddell. Then we could've replaced their scenes with some more exploring of Rory and his dads relationship. He just found out his son has been travelling in time and space and just accepts it like it happens a lot. Solomon could've then taken Rory as he IS a legendary Roman centurion. Rory could willingly go with Solomon to protect his wife and father and his dad could've helped save him by taking out Solomons cane with one of his garden tools or something. That way you get a lovely father-son story told around dinosaurs on a space ship, we ALMOST got a nice moment when Rory was nursing Brian after his burn. If Amy was on the spaceship alone it would've been much tenser too.
As a result of all these rather random characters Amy gets shoved to one side until her scene with The Doctor in the control room. It really wasn't needed.
It was nice to see The Doctor spend a lot of time with Rory. What I became used to was The Doctor running about with Amy with Rory on his own or Rory and Amy together and The Doctor on his own.
So many people on Facebook are complaining about the Doctor kissing Rory, it's kind of sad.

Something to do with the Daleks still knowing who they are.
