dan as always you are a trove of interesting information <3
For it to top Series 4 once the series is over would be very good indeed. The ratings for '4' were bumped up thanks to THAT episode 12 cliffhanger. Series 4 Average 1-12 = 7.83m Series 4 Average 1-13 = 8.04 All down to that 10.57m finale of "is David Tennant leaving?" I don't care much about the specials as they aren't classed as a series. On a related topic, just in, The Power of Three: AI of 87. But, over seven years since 'Rose' and to be looking at such strong final figures... which Doctor Who fan can complain?
I really wish episodes were an hour instead of 45mins.
I really wish episodes were an hour instead of 45mins.
I think if it was an extra quarter of an hour, they'd just have to stretch the dialogue out a bit longer, rather than add more action or anything like that. It'd be more like an episode of US TV, where it's loads and loads and loads of dialogue, mostly going over old conversations again, with bits of action sprinkled here and there. 45 minutes for an episode of Doctor Who is fine, I think.
dan as always you are a trove of interesting information <3
That will be my title one day [editline]24th September 2012[/editline] It won't [editline]24th September 2012[/editline]
I really wish episodes were an hour instead of 45mins.
I just really miss cliff hangers and two parters.
So is anybody still mulling over Rory's name badge two years on? Come out, come out.
So is anybody still mulling over Rory's name badge two years on? Come out, come out.
sorry I dont understand, what is on his name badge?
Well the date on his name card didn't make much sense. He was too young to be a nurse or something. Or far too old to be dating Amy. Something like that. Turns out it was a prop error
I can understand where you're coming from; an extra 15 minutes could help for more exposition, or perhaps less possibility for easy simple wrap-ups where everything gets dealt with rather swiftly. Then again that's probably a writing issue not strictly bound to time; quite a few Doctor Who episodes seem to have the situation resolved quite cleanly from what i've seen, like the Cube-based heart attacks being easily reversed, or Venice not being sunk by a giant tidal wave. Personally, I think that if the TARDIS was more able to travel between universes, like they were back in the era of the Time Lords, writers would probably be more able to explore different possibilities with greater and more earth-shaking consequences that actually stick, like how the timeline diverged in episodes such as Last of the Time Lords, or that one Sarah Jane episode where the Trickster pretty much fucked up Earth's shit. And i'd personally like more of that; more persistent aftermaths that leaves the place quite a bit devastated without hope of a magical reset button, kind of like how the Doctor's intervention on Satellite 5 resulted in a poisoned Earth and Dalek abductions under the guise of TGS. That way it'd make the Doctor's travels have more impact, and the thing where "Death is his sole companion" would be even more justified; maybe even have it upgraded to "He is the Doctor, destroyer of worlds", with his companions now all being sons of bitches. I know; the Doctor as a metaphor for nuclear energy, how poignant and artsy, though it could work if done right. After all, Martha said he was like fire; stand too close and you get burned.
So why is Rory Williams... "the man who dies and dies again." Answers. Glorious answers. Prepare yourselves with appropriate music.
Don't tell us just yet; wait until after the episode pls. *riversong.avi*
That would imply that I know. But alas, I'm not on the preview list. But Moffat promised an answer to that question - and the fact that it was actually referenced in the S6 finale implies a purpose. Fifty minutes to wrap that up, aswell. Don't worry, I wouldn't pull an TheUnDeadGod on you ; )
Okay another update on ratings on what Grizz said earlier as full numbers are now about. A Town Called Mercy achieved amazing ratings. About 9.8 million if you count iPlayer, repeats, Sky+ and all that bullshit http://www.doctorwhonews.net/2012/09/dwn240912223712a-town-called-mercy-official-ratings.html Doctor Who is scoring the big time again baby yeah. About time.
Why would you do this?
Because I started watching it with my sisters and they both enjoy this season and I don't have the time to watch the rest of the seasons anyway because I've got too much stuff to do. Besides, no one seems to think this is a weak season so I don't see the problem with it.
this was really dark http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXZMvgFoqX0
Yeah, 10 kinda loses his shit near the end.
and then 11 was like, "I failed with an adult, I'll try it with a kid"
this was really dark
I think the beginning of that episode made the ending feel even darker at least for me. This is what I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyPIe5w2xY4
Did the Doc ever have a companion COMPLETELY travel with him? Amy/Rory are taking time off inbetween escapades, but I'm wondering if he's ever had one never take a break.
Yes, he has. In fact that was one of the main plot points towards the end of Rose's saga was that she would lose all her connections to her home and never come back. this is why you need to watch the other series!
I've seen like half, maybe more, of Rose and 10. I just really didn't like Rose and it put me off from watching the rest of the season(s).
i almost forgot the doctor even had the psychic paper it feels like the first time he’s used it as the 11th

Seriously start from Doctor Nine and work up. It's not worth missing. I mean Blink is an episode that should never be missed. And series 4 is worth it for the banter with Donna alone. I remember him using it in Series 5, he gave it to Rory. Maybe his first or second Christmas Special he used it to try and prove he was a child minder too. But I think whenever he uses it he messes up big time so just gave up. [editline]25th September 2012[/editline]
I've seen like half, maybe more, of Rose and 10. Then it was Martha and then it was Donna and then he was alone and then it was very briefly Donnas grandfather. That's kind of sad, I like it when they have unique environments.

This is what I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyPIe5w2xY4
Tragedy is only tragedy if the situation is at one point in time, happy. This is why this episode is so tragic, and why Fallout 3 has that air of tragedy, because they both have humour and fun littered throughout them. If you're fucking miserable from the start, it's not a tragedy. It's just the status quo.
Dissonance is a really good mood setter. You mentioned Fallout 3, one of the biggest creators of dissonance in that game is the music you can listen to on the radio.

I haven't been following any leaked information or anything but I'm getting the impression that the doctor is going to do something really dark and maybe go a bit insane over what he is becoming. It's pretty obvious his morals are all wacky at the moment
I really want to see the Doctor flip shit. Every episode I secretly want him to go mad and do something horrible, especially since he seems like he has psychological issues already.
When Amy and Rory go I don't want rage or anger, we've seen it all before. I want a goodbye, one where Amy and Rory probably expect him to have a plan and him just to say goodbye and leave. I want him to sit in The TARDIS. On his own. Basking in his own failure. Just a moment of silence with nothing but the TARDIS engines where the viewers knows exactly what he's feeling without him saying or doing anything. Then just end into the credits and then the trailer for Christmas where he's still feeling pretty gutted about losing his best friends but things are looking up. What I don't want is what we got with Rose where he cries saying goodbye, cheekily gets off with her and sulks about in the TARDIS before COMEDY SCENE. Let's leave The Doctor to have a shit moment for a change without it being brushed under the carpet only for him to cry about it forever later on. Let him have his Amy Rory moment.
