Wow, That was quite the episode I'm kinda sad now
I want to see the doctor with a non-human companion, like a Silurian or [sp]that one dalek from the asylum episode[/sp]. Would be interesting to see how he would conceal their non-humanness when visiting past earth.
i am so glad they didn't show the angels moving like they did back in the last weeping angels episode
The 'one psychopath per Tardis' line - [sp] the way she said it sounded like she has her own TARDIS in context. thoughts?[/sp] Also that episode was just so sad. My god. One thing that really gets me though - [sp] ROry's gravestone being at the beginning. There is literally no explanation for it. History was written like that after the paradox occurred. Not before. It shouldn't have been there. Also, there shouldn't have been a survivor. Also, fuck, so many plotholes. [/sp]
I think the only thing keeping this season down is the fact it has no two-parters. Really, the only thing.

If we take what he says literally, the last time we saw him change the lightbulb was in the series of shorts "Pond Life" at the very beginning of this series.

I know people where emotionally impacted by this episode, but this one didn't get to me. *shrugs* don't know why yet.
wait a minute [sp]amy was 21 at 11th hour. this season she says 10 years aged more or less, making her 30sh at the time of the teleport back to 38. she died at 87, so she lived past her birth, and almost to 7 year old eleventh hour[/sp]

This episode seemed to have a lot of plot holes to me. I don't get why the Doctor couldn't just a few years to see Amy and Rory. Is he blocked out of New York forever?

Don't know about anyone else, but I felt like shitting bricks when I saw this:

He's probably traveled to the 1930 to 40s in the UK. A degree or two of separation there.
- Why did The Doctor just leave an Angel in New York at the end? - Why couldn't he just go back and visit Amy and Rory in the 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's? - The Doctor modified the vortex manipulator to carry more than one person in the past. Why not do it again and when River goes to Amy to get her story published just bring them back? [editline]30th September 2012[/editline] I like the episode when I watched it but how easily every problem was solved as I mentioned before and these little things that are ignored are tarnishing it for me. It makes me wish Power of Three was the last one for the trio.
It just felt like it wasn't written as an adventure more of an excuse to kill off amy/rory. I mean come on it was at every turn, it would have been far more impacting if it didn't have any of the book "final goodbye" in or that crap. Just a simple adventure episode which goes wrong at the end. It would have been much better imo

Illegal aliens with no information of their existence. How do they live? I'm fairly sure you can't rent property, get a job, etc without sufficient personal information. It's all americanized, like something out of Hollywood, it's nothing like the earlier seasons. Another thing I hate is how they build so much emphasis on Amy being the most important girl in the universe, etc. They bring such an importance to Amy and Rory that they actually become a neccessity of Dr.Who. The way he killed them off in such a predicablt and sudden fashion imo has killed a lot of what Dr.Who is about. I'm not sure what to think when the rest of the season comes at Christmas, but right now I feel like I did when Tennant transformed into Smith, It was quite a substancial hit right after growing accustomed to the character. And whilst I may adjust Amy and Rory will always be my favourite companions. And their episodes will be the ones I'll always re-watch in the future.
Why not land the Tardis in New Jersey in 1938 and just walk to see them?
I just don't understand why Moffat has to try and be brilliant and clever every time he writes. I really liked everything he did before Series 6. Since then his work on Tin-Tin, his most recent Sherlock episode and everything he wrote for Series 6/7 has been trying too hard to do some crazy time shit each time. Like Amy seeing The Doctors death. Was made out to be this deeply touching moment but we all know it's going to be resolved. The Doctor hastily marrying River. Does that even count it's another reality? The whole marriage thing seems like it was just done as a punchline. I got a feeling Oswin being in the Dalek will be hastily explained away or another punchline. Power of Three and this episode would've been much better two parters. Because the last two felt rushed as hell. But even then the problem with Moffat is if it was a two-parter then the first part would've been exactly the same was what we just saw. He wouldn't pad it out, just tack more on to the end.

I would like to see Moffat do some more standalone episodes again... though he was probably put off by his son's reaction to The Beast Below.

For instance the moment where amy says goodbye and dissapears before the doctor can reply, that just reminds me of Rose when Tennant doesn't get to finish his "I love you" to her. It seems to me like Moffat wanted that same feeling but he didn't create it because it was too rushed. And the plot of the last episode is pretty dissapointing "everyone is in peril, oh now everything is safe and perfect, wait no, unexpected attack at the end sets everything bad" I've seen this type of plot being used lots in the past.
I dunno. I think he's mined all his ideas. It's why new writers always give us better feeling episodes. They've got a ton of ideas they've not tried yet.

Either way myself and a lot of my friends aren't impressed. In fact I actually feel somewhat stressed at how much of a bad state I can imagine the xmas episodes to be. Maybe we'll be surprised, but frankly I don't think it'll be as good as "The Eleventh Hour" or any of the early season 5 episodes.
I think Christmas will be fine. I just hope we drop the "LOOK WHAT DOCTOR WHO CAN DO" attitude which is the exact same self obsessed attitude that destroyed the show in the 80's. It's got to go back to standing on it's own as a TV show, not stand on it's own as a Doctor Who episode.
I think it's just the "Doctor Who?" thing we really have to concern ourselves with now. There was zero build up to The Angels Take Manhattan other than "this is when Amy and Rory leave" - a big point, yes, but it didn't rely on as much as the Series Six arc did. With the Ponds gone, and River phasing out, Moffat is now resting a lot on the answer to the ultimate question. Thankfully, it's being played out more as a Series 1-4 story arc than a 5-6. Self-contained episode disappointment is preferably to convoluted series disappointment. Just for me, anyway. But I agree that we're going to feel the loss of two-parters. While I'm glad we don't have shoehorned cliffhangers in every story, Doctor Who was built on those moments and then suitably fleshed out stories.
